Such a disappointment. It hasn't changed much at all since I was playing with it when it had to be built from scratch using a modified CyanogenMod... It barely functioned then and it doesn't seem much better now. At least opening the Web browser won't cause it to freeze now according to the review.

Still though... For all that they promised... This is a huge disappointment.

Ubuntu phone is supposed to be a desktop replacement "super phone" that works well for desktop tasks. We need a high-end Atom with 8G dual channel RAM or something. What's the point of this A7 device?

For now, just get a flagship Android, throw a desktop distro on it, and call it a day.

Yeah we were promised a lot more. It was always an ambitious project if you ask me... Hardware can't keep up with it yet.

The technology is already usable. Some Atoms can already fit in phones and work well. If we just sacrifice on the form factor side a bit and make a device maybe twice as thick as the thinnest phone today both thermal envelope and battery capacity would get bumped to levels that can rival many netbooks. Beside the missing software (Linux Desktop on Android kind of works already), the major problem is the DTR phone market space is not created yet, and it looks like Canonical alone does not have to power to get the door open.

I'm totally willing to pay several times the price of a typical flagship phone for such a product now. But there are apparently not enough customers with me to justify the cost upfront.

Both MS and Apple seem to have no plans for X86 on mobile. Which other company has the strength to do it then?
