Anyway to store videos over 4gb on external 256gb micro-sd on Android?

On my tablet that has Android 8 Oreo

It formats my 256gb micro-sd as fat32 that cannot sore files over 4gb.

I have tried formatting the micro-sd card on my PC as NTFS and exFat but when installing it back in my tablet it says the micro-sd is corrupt.

Any comments will be welcome.

My Sony Android 9.0 formats a 256 at exFat and will accept a over 4gb file, Same for my Samsung Android 6.0 formats as exFat as well

So i am going to see if my New tablet will accept the micro-sd that has been formatted in my Sony or Samsung.

 

Na, I tried my own suggestion and it does not work, My new tablet just says the exFat i formatted in my Samsung is corrupt, So it looks like i an cannot transfer files over 4gb.

 

Android has supported exFAT since KitKat, but Microsoft didn't support their format being added to the Linux kernel before May last year. Therefore, it's been up to OEMs to include support. Most devices that support microSD cards larger than 32 GB also support exFAT.

If your tablet is rooted, a custom ROM will likely include the necessary components. Alternatively, you can look for a flashable zip package containing fuse drivers.

If your tablet isn't rooted, some third party file managers are able to mount exFAT and NTFS, but it's going to be a less stable solution than native support. While I have no experience with the app, it appears Total Commander has plugins to get the job done.

 

I have an Teclast M30 a cheapish Chinese tablet, It`s not rooted and not really any rom`s that i trust.

I tried formatting the 256gb micro-sd in my Sony and Samsung devices and they both format to exFat but they show as corrupt when used in my Teclast M30

The 4gb limit is not a huge thing as i can usually find a under 4gb version of a video but i though i would put the question out to see if these was an easy fix.

Why not use adb push to transfer files to SD card or internal storage?

 

I transferred a 5.4gb file from my PC to the built in internal memory of the tablet and it transferred fine

Then i tried a couple of "Files to SD Card" mover apps.

The first one i tried would only transfer 4.0gb of the file to the external micro sd.

The seconds started to copy the file and then gave an error that it could not more the file.

The whole problem is the tablet will only format the external micro sd as FAT32 and that has an 4gb file size limit.

Hmm. Do you have support for 256GB SD card for your tablet or does it limit to under 128GB?

 

I have an 512GB Micro SD in it at the moment and it works fine and show the full capacity, I had an 256GB in previous and i had the same problem of the 4GB file size limit.

I have an Teclast M30 128GB 4GB RAM tablet.

Did you format the sd card using sd card formatter?
It differs slightly from standard format used by typical OS and I did feel more snappy sd card performance.

 

I use SD Card Formatter software all the time, Though i cannot remember what the default format is for 256GB and 512GB, I think it`s exFat.

On my Samsung tablet on Android 6.0 it formats the external 256GB and 512GB microsd as exFat, My Sony phone on Android 9.0 formats at exFat as well, But my Teclast M30 formats the 256GB and 512GB as FAT32

I even tried the 256gb and 512gb formatted as exFat from my Sony phone and Samsung tablet in my Teclast M30 and it reported them as corrupt and prompted me to format them.

 

Yeah 64GB and more SD cards are formatted as exFAT. That's odd that M30 formats it as fat32. Are you able to R/W onto sd card on m30?

 

Yeah, I can read an write, delete and move files from internal to external or the other way around.

It`s not a huge problem, though i will keep my eye`s open for a fix.

it could be a counterfeit SDcard did you buy it from a reputable source?

 

They format as exFat on my Samsung Tablet and Sony Phone, But only format as FAT32 on my new M30 tablet.

I bough my 512GB and 256GB from a reputable retailer, MyMemory UK

 

update the firmware it says it will do android 10

if it still does not work I suspect an issue with the memory card slot
