I am a devoted android phone person (rooted LG v30 from verizon--vs99630c debloated rom). After purchasing A Dell Inspiron computer a few months ago, and then later a new Kindle Fire, my wife no longer uses her generation 6 iPad. So, I have taken control of it. It is now mine to play with.

I have spent the last two days deleting all of her info on it and loading my stuff onto it. The only reason I took it was because I was looking for something just a little bigger than my cell phone (actually something in the 7 to 8 inch size) to sit around in my lounge chair and do a little surfing, visit my websites such as NBR, etc. So, actually the iPad is a little bit bigger than what I wanted, but, saved me a little money (one or two hundred $).

I have found it is quite different than my android phone, but little l by little, I'm learning.

One problem I have encountered with its use actually has to do with visiting the NBR forum. When I bring the forum on screen, it loads fine. But, the page will not scroll down. It is frozen on that page. I have not encountered that on any other website, so far. Would it have anything to do with the "unsecured website" message I get in the url(?)? Any help with that problem would be much appreciated.

I have googled several different sites trying to find an easy way to transfer my music from the Dell computer or my android to the iPad. Hopefully, without using iTunes. I haven't been able to do that, yet. Any "EASY" way to do that? I've tried a couple of the different apps but not really understanding parts of the process. (the music on the computer is in Dell's Groove Music app - might be the problem?). Or should I do away with the iPad and get me one of the smaller tablets out there (have to fight my wife over that, though-cost).

Any help or other tips /suggestions much appreciated.
    Thx.

Are you using Safari as your browser? I have an iPad Air 3 and have little issue browsing NBR, and the not secure warning is irrelevant in this context. Sorry, I’m not sure as to what could be the issue there.

Music...ah, now that’s a prime example of Apple promoting its services first. This app may help with avoiding iTunes : https://imazing.com/iphone-music-transfer

I am using safari (can I change browsers?). I sorta thought you had to use iPad stuff? If so, what else can I do/change to the operating system?

I am dl’ing the imazing app now . Whoops, just got a download failure error. Retrying now.
I tried this app yesterday, but from the Microsoft store. Completely wrong app. Dl now from their home site.

I use microsoft for my services on my iPad 6th gen. Apple music is my preferred music platform. I was using my wifes 11 inspiron 2 in 1 today on the couch and love it. I will be moving my iPad to her and getting a surface pro x for me. I would recommend all ms services and edge for the browser.

Thx, I have downloaded duck duck go, my preferred browser the last month or so and am using it now. Scrolling seems to be fixed (safari problem?). I will try this iPad for a while to see how it goes. Maybe more changes can be made? If I keep it, I might try and get a cheap pen for it. Wife did not buy one originally. I will keep trying to transfer some of my music, but does not look real promising.
    Thx, again.

Apple don't play nice with other music. Just the way it is. I caved and bought the family apple music pass. It fixed all of those issues for me.

Well, my problem is I don’t stream or download much music. I usually only play music that I ripped or burned off of old cds years ago. I originally did that for about 1000 songs (since then, I have somehow lost deleted about half unintentionally in googles play music). I have those 500 songs or so on my phone and laptop (new Dell Inspiron) and would like to put them on the iPad.

Thx. Ido enjoy reading your posts and suggestions. Very informative to a new, somewhat unwilling iPad user :).

I am not that well versed in computer technology and know how (I need a very detailed - very detailed, set of instructions to do everything correctly. I think I did, but not sure. I tried several different times to get it to work. I could never get the computer to detect the ifunbox/iPad. Step two. Is it possible that is because the computer is windows 10 pro and the ifunbox app was last updated four years ago for windows 8?

    Again, thx for the suggestion.

I doubt it. The only other thing I can think of is to use iTunes to load the music onto your iPad by syncing with your pc.

@gimpy1 I'd suggest selling the iPad, and getting a different device. You clearly have needs that go beyond Apple's walled garden, thus you might meet other limitations that will cause frustration and waste your time, whereas Windows or Android tablet will "just work".

Anyone who says ipad are more stable, reliable etc are totally drinking the kool-aid. My 6th gen and my sons 5th gen iPads are constanting giving us fits lately. I have to restart his multiple times a day. Mine is opening apps by itself (usually the apple store, go figure) and just hanging doing nothing. I think it's time to move to the pro X. Format my iPad and give it to my wife. They have been constantly giving issues lately.

Well, I don’t think I have had those problems, but, I am a new user. I have updated it to the newest os (14.2, I think).

I have not really looked into syncing this iPads messaging system (texting) with my rooted lg v30 (vs99630c debloated rom) phone, yet. Do you know if it can be done, and if so, how?
    Thx.

I think you need an iPhone to access texts on your iPad. iMessage will come through but there is a setting on the iPhone to send text to other Apple devices.

It’s something going on with iOS. My new iPhone 11 opened different apps by itself 3 times today, and my wife’s new iPhone 11 actually downloaded, installed and opened a game from Apple Arcade. I’m getting ticked off now. If I look at another brand phone etc, when I close the browser Apple store app automatically opens. I can look at anything else on the net and nothing, until I look at something Apple deems as competition.

Looking for any suggestions for getting an inexpensive (I guess that means something other than apple :)) pen or stylus for the iPad 6th generation? Everything I’ve googled comes up with pens and stylus’ for drawing and writing notes, etc. That is not what I am looking for. I’m looking for something that can be used like my finger—clicking on something and opening it up or click and drag, etc. I want one that I can use to navigate on and around the screen. I’m trying to keep it under $20-30?

    Any suggestions?
    Thx.

@kojack - when we had problems with a iPad randomly opening stuff it was to misaligned touch screen (after changing a battery. We removed the screen, reinstalled, and had no issues afterwards.

Not saying your problem is not the bloating iOS, but could be a hardware issue.

Just a quick update on getting a cheapish pen. I did order and received the pen yesterday and have been using it on my iPad. Seems to work fine for my use, so far. As an added bonus, I found that it also works on my android phone.
When I ordered this the other day, I also ordered a case for the iPad. The plastic part of the old case (that actually held the iPad) had cracked and broken and had several sharp points on it. I like to read the iPad in a portrait fitting, and this case does adjust to that (along with horizontal mode).

i did buy, as is my custom, on the cheap side ($37) shipped for the two of them.

Although not the best, I am happy with the purchase, after one day’s use. :)

I have a UAG case on my ipad. I had a few cheap ones that cracked so I bought that and have been happy with the case since purchase....the iPad, not so much.
