I bought a couple of Android TV Boxes, and they only have 1GB of memory.

Anybody have a suggestion for an app that can close a free the memory of background apps, I the Boxes came rooted so that is not a problem.

If you think memory mangers are not needed, explain please.

    John.

I use greenify - you specify which apps you want to be killed and which should be kept running in the background... After that, it's just a case of tapping an icon to kill them. I also use titanium backup to freeze apps that randomly auto start and I don't need to frequently use - pretty easy to unfreeze if/when you need them again.

Newer versions of android have gotten better at this kinda stuff but I still feel that Greenify is worth having. I certainly notice an improvement in battery and responsiveness.

I used clean master and it boosts my device a lot. (Kill unusual app - Stop app from restarting or running in background)

+ 1 for Clean Master. It works great for freeing up memory.

I don’t because android is set up to use as much ram as possible. However it moves away from that when more ram space is needed it. Unused ram is useless ram.
