That's a little messed up.

I wonder if they'll offer some kind of licensing to third parties.. Probably not, glad I take care of my cables lol. Only downside is that I won't be able to find super long charge cables
guess ill have to pick up a USB cable extender.. Kinda sucks, but I suppose that's one of the benefits of pioneering your own connectors
-
I'm sure they're going to have to in order to get those accessories/adapters to work, but licensing cost through official means would probably wipe those super cheap USB cables out of existence. We'll have to see the cost of the accessories with the new connectors and compare it to the previous generations once they start rolling out.

My iPhone 5 arrived. Honestly, I'm not that impressed.
-
As well you shouldn't be. iFans have a tendency to blow things out of proportion. It's a very good phone with good software. It is, however, virtually impossible for any iPhone to live up to the hype.
-
I think it's great.
Definitely recommend an upgrade if you can... it's thinner, lighter and LTE is oh-so-fast.
I like the form factor and definitely feels well-built. -
I completely agree. When you take it for what it is, it's fantastic. When you look at it compared to what people hype it up to be, it's not that great and you'll wish you switched to something different like the SIII or 820. I upgraded from the 4 to the 4S and I wasn't all that impressed either. But I enjoy the phone still. I'm thinking the 5 will be a more worthwhile upgrade than the 4S was for me.
Saw a kid with one on the bus today and I was surprise at how thin it looked. I know they said thinner than the 4S, but it's hard to picture it until you see it. The antennae band looks darker than I wanted though. It was only a passing glance, perhaps it's not that dark..? Looked darker than the black glass. -
IMO, the biggest splash Apple made with the iPhone other than the original model was with the 4. That model brought the high density display, noticeable case design and iOS 4 brought a lot to the table over iOS 3. The problem with the 5 to me is that the OS looks/performs largely the same, the case design was conservatively updated, and there is nothing out right now that really allows the user to see what the A6 SoC is really capable of. The screen did indeed get larger, but the pixel density remained the same.
I am going to have to say, no manufacturer has matched up with Motorola with radio signal and quality. I can stream YouTube videos all day long with the Razr M locked on LTE, and I can't get this iPhone to hold usable LTE, much less 3G signal unless I'm outside the office. -

While I was playing Clash of Clans I noticed my phone 4s gets pretty hot. Since I have access to temp monitoring equipment, I placed a TC on the warmest spot on the back (beside the apple logo, under the camera) and on the side (near memory card slot).
I started playing and the temps in both spot maxed between 100 and 105F.
Just thought I'd share.

We're trying to get support to have dedicated sections of NBR for desktops, tablets, phones, etc created so we won't have to have to have everything crammed into a single thread for these discussions. The idea is to consolidate the forum components of NBR's sister sites with this one since the other sites are all but abandoned. Link in sig to vote or post opinions!

iPad 3 fixed. Glass broke from a drop so I decided to replace myself. Ordered a kit for $60. Using a heat gun, I removed the screen. Popped the connections out and reconnected the screen. As I tested it before putting the screen back on, I could see the light come on then no more. Turns out something was not connected properly so the system shut down. This forced me to take out the batteries and pop out and reinsert a connection underneath the batteries, to do a hard reboot. I used silicon and not the tape to put the screen back on. Working well without issues.

An iPhone 5 optimized YouTube app was released today.

Hi all!
Been a while since I've been here, I've been off playing with my not-so-new-anymore laptop! Anyway I've recently bought an iPhone 5 and I have been looking for a dock to no avail, it recently came to my attention that there is a reason hardly any docks support the iPhone 5, because the new Lightning adapter replaced the old 30-pin thing.
Well anyway, I was wondering if any of you fine people had knowledge of iPhone 5 compatible docks? Price isn't really an issue as long as it's worth it, but anyway I thought it was worth asking.
Thanks! -
I haven't seen anyone that makes them normally shipping them, IIRC there was a few announced but they're somewhat expensive.
Edit: Well, googling around shows a few, but there's still nowhere near as many as there was with the old connector. -
Just used evasi0n to jailbreak my iPhone 5. Everything appears to be working.
-
i haven't updated my phone in a while, but i'm kind of reluctant right now. i don't want it to reset all of my Clash of Clans progress.
-
Missing my iPhone.. Current plan is to sell my Note and jump ship back to Apple when the next one comes out..
-
My friend did that. I felt the same way when I tried an Android phone; I just ended up missing the iPhone
-
When I had the iPhone, I started feeling bored with it. My friend had a Nexus and he was always talking about all this different stuff he was doing to his and I thought maybe I would be entertained for longer if I got one. I was at the ATT store and I decided that if I was jumping ship then I might as well give Android the best chance it has to impress me and paid $300+tax for the Note 2..
Sure, the large screen is nice and the stylus is cool at times, but that doesn't outweigh the annoying stuff. The copy/paste/highlight sucks. If i want to print from a wireless printer that isn't a Samsung one I have to download an app. And I realized every time I wish i had an app, I didn't want to pay for it again having already paid for it on iOS not too long ago.
I really want Apple to skip the "S" variant this gen so I can be happy to pay off contract price for it. Part of the reason I got the Note 2 was because I couldn't justify paying $200 for the changes that came with upgrading from a 4S to a 5. We'll see what happens I guess.. -
I also switched from the iPhone 4 to the Note 2... but I like the Note 2 more. Many of the apps that you have to pay for in iOS are free on Android, but then again, there are apps on iOS that are not available for Android.
I like that the included apps have built-in streaming capabilities and being able to access settings without having to jailbreak. The soft keyboard is better (could be the bigger screen) and watching movies/videos on the Note 2 is great. It's basically my tablet with LTE connectivity.
But I will probably get the next iPhone that comes out, only because I have two phones and the iPhone will be my primary "voice" phone. -
Yeah, I like that there are more free full apps, but it's annoying when you come across one that isn't for your screen res.
I haven't really enjoyed the keyboard experience thus far on my Note 2. realistically it's probably because the phone is so huge and I'm not used to the key spacing yet, but I've tried a handful of keyboards and I haven't liked any one them. I do enjoy the SwiftKey Flow feature though.
I'm not one for keeping much media on my phone. I had music on my iphone, but I found myself using Pandora much more. It seems to me that I get twice as many ads from Pandora on Android as I did with my iphone, but I could be crazy I guess.. You're right though, the screen is nice for many things though.
I guess it depends on what they do with the next iphone, and how much I can get for my Note when it comes out.. I'll have used my upgrade for the year so I'll need to buy it in full. -

So, iOS 7 looks like an interface designer's dream. It's, quite honestly, amazing.
-
Yes, Apple did a great job with the interface as a whole, it's definitely not just icon changes. I'm very intrigued on the new multi-tasking feature.
-
Looks more "new to iOS" than "new" to me. As Ben Rudolph tweeted:
-
The middle one is a bit of a stretch. Looks a lot more like the stock android lockscreen than anything approximating WP.
-
Good point on the lock screen and certain button placements, but the 'card' multitasking was derived from WebOS before anyone else used it. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, yes?
-

Folks, we have a winner. WebOS was first on so many innovative ideas. Sad that it sank into oblivion. -
WebOS lives on as everyone else's "innovations".
I like the interface changes... but if rumors are true that this year is just an "S" update, not sure how long Apple can keep out of the "big screen" market. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
When is iOS7 coming? I don't see any updates on my iPhone 5.
-
I'm actually not really liking the color palette for the redesign, but that's just aesthetics. Most of the changes were much-needed changes that finally get rid of many of iOS's persistent quirks and inconveniences.
When I saw Control Center, my first thought was Any.DO's "moment" notifications:
At least the Any.DO devs won't have any problems integrating their app into iOS7.
In the fall, as per usual for Apple. It'll probably be after the latest iPhone is released. -
If you hold shift and click the update button in iTunes, you can install the beta without a dev account.

You know, the more I look at iOS 7, it reminds me more and more of Meego on an N9. Even the edge swipe gestures. It even has the same bubbly look and feel to it.
EDIT: Looks like The Verge agrees with me. -
Not all iOS 7 features will be coming to older iDevices - GSMArena.com news
Question...why the discrepancy between the iPad 2 and mini? I thought they had the same SoC? -
That's not particularly surprising - it's been the same with pretty much every new release of iOS, has it not?
-
That's true, but I just don't understand why the iPad 2 can't have the same upgrade paths as the mini, unless it's missing something that I'm not aware of.
...And you certainly can't tell me there is a legitimate reason why the 4S can't have AirDrop and the new camera filters. Pure malarkey, the 4S is still a very capable handset. -
Again, nothing new there - Apple deliberately withheld new features from devices that were capable of supporting them before.
As, in the interests of fairness, have most phone manufacturers most likely. -
Why does Apple treat the iPad as a second class device? Why isn't it on equal footing with the iPhone? Why are there features on the iPhone that are omitted from the iPad for no discernable reason, even stuff so simple as the weather app?
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I've always seen that iPhones get upgrades and apps first before the "iPad " versions. They probably want to appeal to what more users have, does anyone have solid numbers on iPads vs iPhone sales? -
I noticed that by their refusal to include iBooks on OS X. Now they're finally introducing it to OS X with Mavericks. That's something that they should've done a while ago. You could create an iBook on iBook Author, but you couldn't properly view it without an iPad...
-
The lack of iBooks on OSX was always absurd. First of all, making an e-reader app takes what, five minutes? It's about the simplest app besides a calculator app. Second, while typical usage isn't to read books on a laptop, there are plenty of situations where you might want to:
(1) You're on a transatlantic flight with just your iPhone and a MacBook Air. Which is going to be easier on your eyes...the 4" phone or an 11" laptop sitting on the tray table in front of you?
(2) You're a student who is using iBooks textbooks (remember that whole push?). You're taking notes while you read and you want to have a word processor application open split-screen with your textbook.
(3) Like my mother, you're an older Apple user and your eyesight isn't quite what it used to be. Reading large print on a 15" rMBP or 17" MBP sounds pretty nice. -
So we decided to update a 4 and a 4S to iOS 7 beta. You're going to want to have a 4S as a minimum to have a good experience, and even then it stutters occasionally.
Mmmm...lag and random Springboard reboots. Granted this is beta, but the 4's performance is just too abysmal for any optimization to resolve entirely. -
So when Sir Johnny Ive said:
He wasn't just talking about feature-sets, was he?
-
Like you said, it's beta. I'm sure the 4 will struggle a bit, but we're talking about software that is 4+ months from release. Wouldn't worry too much about it.
-
Bingo. Its likely chock full of debug code and other not quite optimized stuff.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2 -
Let's hope so, the 4S is practically good to go with few minor tweaks but the 4 is borderline unusable as-is. We don't have a spare 5 to test but judging from the 4S, I'd expect it to be near perfect.
-
Is there a way to get iTunes/iCloud to automatically reinstall apps when I restore my iPhone from a backup?
Right now, it saves and restores all of my app data, but it won't reinstall the apps.
