    2018 Apple iPad Pro Review
    MobileTechReview
    Published on Nov 9, 2018
Lisa Gade reviews Apple’s 3rd gen iPad Pro for 2018, now available in 11” and 12.9” sizes. We use the 12.9” iPad Pro for this review. The new iPads start at $799 and $999 and are available with optional Gigabit 4G LTE and storage up to 1TB storage. They run iOS 12 on the insanely fast Apple A12X Bionic CPU. They have Liquid Retina LCD displays supporting the new Apple Pencil 2 and a magnetic connector for accessories like the Smart Keyboard Cover. Face ID replaces Touch ID, USB-C replaces the Lightning connector and they sport a new straight-sided design.

The new iPad Pro has unreal hardware. Incredible power. And beautiful design... but it's still an iPad.

Does Apple's insistence that "It's a computer" finally deliver for the iPad Pro three years later? It's my review of the good and bad from Apple's 3rd generation iPad Pro.

What Apple says Pro it should at least pass Jerryrig's Endurance test or MIL certifications. I don't know what to say, their design language is becoming outdated when they mask it as simplicity.

Does the PlayStation 4 Pro meet that standard? Dell Venue 8 Pro? Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro? Samsung Chromebook Pro?

If not, why demand that Apple meet that standard to use the term Pro?

Its because of the cost and marketed as sort of laptop replacement that costs higher than macbook air (I'm comparing 12" ipad pro with MBA base model)

The term pro, this instance means professional photo, graphics and office use. Not professional demolitions experts. Seriously people.

Yeah I understand that but also take it into consideration when an iPad which you were reading your keynote presentation or spreadsheet or any document and you leave your ipad in your cabin and return to your cabin to find iPad is cleaning itself when a glass of water is suddenly on your iPad and you don't have backups of that even in iCloud because it was late night work and I/anyone don't use lightning based flash drive and your colleagues look sideways and say we didn't do it and we were never in your cabin.

    1. Thats not the fault of the designation of the device,
    2. That is entirely the fault of the user being designated as pro when they were obviously not! :p

It was sort of a joke, but, in your situation, the fact that something is called pro or not has NOTHING to do with that scenario. Again, the ipad pro is called PRO for professional photographers, graphics creators etc ...not for being indestructible because of dumb friends.

American Pie (9/12) Movie CLIP - One Time at Band Camp (1999) HD
    Published on Jun 27, 2011
    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Jim (Jason Biggs) asks Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) to Prom as she spouts stories about Band Camp.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this coming-of-age comedy, a group of friends at the end of their senior year make a pact to lose their virginity by prom night. In their outrageous attempts to fulfill this mission, they come to some surprising, hilarious and often touching realizations about themselves, their friendships, their notions of love, romance and their relations with the opposite sex.

If you haven't seen the movies, it's worth catching up to the series. Some say the first one is the best, I haven't caught up with the direct to video 4 releases. I found an "auto-voiced" overview of the 8 movies in order from worst to best:

I vaguely remember most scenes. I watched them few years ago and got really sick watching them. I skipped most of them fast forwarding most scenes. After that, I don't have patience to watch any movie on a PC. I usually see the start and end of the movie and I get the overall summary of the movie.

Are you really that busy that you can't watch a full movie? You need to sit back, relax and enjoy some good comedy, etc.

Can The Google Pixel Slate Beat The iPad Pro?
    Unbox Therapy
    Published on Nov 28, 2018
The Google Pixel Slate is Google’s answer to the iPad Pro and Microsoft Surface devices. The Slate takes some of it’s cues from the Pixel Book (Chromebook) but packs it into a removable tablet style form factor. So is the Google Pixel Slate any good? Can it compete with the iPad Pro and Microsoft Surface?

I was gifted an iPad Pro 11" with 256gb storage this past Christmas from a good friend. Very kind gesture! I have an iPhone 8 and use this as my "iPod" and store some movies on it to watch when I travel. To be honest I have found a great use for the iPad as a second computer display when I am on the road. It works great in that capacity.

Its the old version of the ipad pro right? If so, that one is fine. The new one is the bent from the box monstrosity. I love my ipad 9.7" 2018 model. I have the 128gb LTE model and I take it everywhere with me because it's light and easy to use. I have it "microsoft'ed" ha ha. I use all Microsoft software on it for my daily things like email, web browsing etc. I only have the ipad over the surface go because of texture. Even in emulation, texture is not good. Until Microsoft can get a similar magazine service, I am on the ipad.

I agree. But that does not change the fact that it's so fragile (like most every new apple product) that I could not spend money on it. HA HA.

Hi guys, I stopped paying attention to the iPad Pro since the release as I didn't know it was prone to bending easily and Apple isn't taking responsibility for the design flaw - it's not rigid enough to support weight against it when in a backpack or being used 1 handed or any twisting might hold the bend. It looks like the next month after I last posted about the iPad Pro - Dec 2018 is when it started be known.

Here's a useful video with Apple Genius Bar footage where they deny coverage to an owner and the owner was fortunate enough to have purchased Apple Care ($129) so the replacement was only an incident charge of $49 instead of the normal owner with only the standard warranty - $499 charge for replacing a "bent" iPad Pro. Every new owner should be aware of these details so they are covered.

Check out the comments in these videos on YT for more reports from owners.

I never had a bending problem with the earlier iPad's or Android tablets, or Android phones, so this is a bit of a shock that it's currently a problem with the 2019 model of the iPad Pro's.

GizmoSlip has a couple more videos besides this one on the subject in the past 2 weeks, check out his channel:

Did your iPad Pro bend? Be sure to let everyone know in the comments down below! Do you think iPad Pro's are too easily bent? Too flimsy? Take the poll in my video! Stay tuned for part 2 of my bent iPad Pro fiasco coming soon!

I bought a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 for my parents to replace their 10-year-old laptop that was running a Core2 Duo Processor. After giving them a tutorial on how to use it for web, video, and MS Office applications, along with an "iPad for Seniors" magazine, they were off to the races. In the four months they've owned it, I've not had to field a single tech support phone call about that device. Over the same period of time, I've had to fix issues with their Windows 10 desktop three times. I'm strongly considering replacing that machine with a Mac Mini, but I don't have the money right now to do so.

That's an odd response to my posting a warning about easily bendable iPro Pro's... I wouldn't give anyone that device knowing how fragile it is.

Are you sure they are using the iPad Pro? I know that sounds like a silly question, but it wouldn't be the first time I've had the same situation - no problem calls about a device - only to find my parents weren't using it. TV, VHS and DVD players come to mind.

My sister did take to the iPad more than the PC, but I've had to walk her through a number of use scenarios over the years when I hear how she is using it and when I ask her to send or receive something from me or go to a website and interact with it.

No news isn't always good news. There is no magical device that will solve this problem of trying to help bring our family and friends into computer savviness.

Spending $1000-1500 on an iPad Pro is just throwing money at the problem instead of spending the personal one on one time needed to help them learn.

Yes, this is a silly question. However, being the nice guy that I am, I will humor you.

Within the first week of ownership, my mom texted me with great joy saying that she figured out how to search for and download the owner's manual to their then-new washing machine. She was also excited to download the Kindle app and remotely check out books from the local library. My dad writes using the MS Word app in his spare time. They've also taken it on three separate weekend road trips. The one issue they had was with the keyboard case I also bought them, but they figured it out themselves without needing me to intervene.

So I will thank you for ceasing to project your experiences onto me from this point forward.

Reports of the frame being bent from normal use even after putting the iPad Pro inside of a hard case can be explained by Apple's reasoning for the iPad Pro being bent right out of the box.

Apple confirms some iPad Pros ship slightly bent, but says it’s normal
    By Chris Welch @chriswelch Dec 19, 2018, 5:14pm EST
    https://www.theverge.com/2018/12/19...end-pro-2018-shipping-manufacturing-confirmed

" Apple has confirmed to The Verge that some of its 2018 iPad Pros are shipping with a very slight bend in the aluminum chassis. But according to the company, this is a side effect of the device’s manufacturing process and shouldn’t worsen over time or negatively affect the flagship iPad’s performance in any practical way. Apple does not consider it to be a defect."

It may not be a defect if it is expected, but that doesn't mean the iPad Pro isn't too thin in design and not adequately built for every day use.

The release of stress built in during the manufacturing processes can warp the frame, and with everyday use flexing the stressed area is causing it to bend. Apple suggests it won't happen or continue over time but that seems to be clearly not the case with so many reports by owners of the 2018 and now 2019 iPad Pro's.

If you don't have a bent iPad Pro out of the box, being careful with it and putting it in a hard case may not be enough.

During the iPhone 6 bendgate I recommended returning the phone to Apple and wait for the replacement from Apple, which turned out to work out great for many people. You don't have to keep something that isn't made well, and returning it with a complaint about the problem to the vendor will nudge them in the right direction to come up with a better product.

Here's a review of the iPad Pro's bending problem:

The iPad Pro Is Bending. I'm Not Happy.
    Unbox Therapy
    Published on Jan 1, 2019
Is the iPad Pro too fragile? Did Apple sacrifice structural integrity in exchange for thinness? Several reports have emerged suggesting that may be the case. Some are claiming that their iPad Pro arrived bent in the box, others suggest the iPad Pro is not backpack friendly.
