FYI, articles are all over the web after this morning's announcement; I will add a link when NBR or Brighthand posts its own article. Regardless, I'm pretty impressed. Photo courtesy of Android Police:

    * It's definitely in phablet category (1440p and 5.7"), though it emphasizes small bezels much like LG's large phones do.

    * The biggest problem with the previous Moto X line was the camera, and according to early third-party tests, this new Moto X at least matches, if not exceeding, the camera performance of Samsung and Apple's current flagships. Most of the other improvements on the phone are incremental, but camera performance appears to be a great leap forward for Motorola. I personally think 20 megapixels is overkill, though, and results in unreasonably-large images and video.

    * MicroSD expansion up to 128 gb is a great addition in a market where fewer and fewer phones offer it. This will be nice as Android M is improving how well Android utilizes microSD cards.

    * Water resistance is a competitive advantage over Samsung and Apple's current flagships as well.

    * Moto Maker continues to offer wood and leather backs and a host of color combinations, and now offers some soft-touch plastic options as well.

    * Wireless charging is a notable omission, unfortunately.

    * But the most remarkable thing is the price. At $399, it's a bit over half the price of a Samsung or Apple flagship.

I assume this puts it in the same performance bracket as the OnePlus One?

The OnePlus Two, which just got unveiled this week as well, is a close competitor to the new Moto X. The OnePlus Two offers a lower starting price ($329 for a non-expandable 16 gb model and $389 for a non-expandable 64 gb model), but the Moto X offers a slightly better screen and a microSD card slot. The OnePlus Two has the Snapdragon 810; the Moto X has the 808. I think Motorola's mild tweaks to stock Android are better than OnePlus' mild tweaks to stock Android, but at the end of the day, both are mostly-stock. At least on paper, I don't think you could go wrong with either one. Both seem to offer flagship specs and performance at midrange prices.
