I mean I have the Z3V, and with the normal 801, it can get toasty. I don't think it helps that the back is glass either.

This is so bad for Qualcomm it's not even funny... Their entire 8xx series overheats... Although it's not the first. The only reason attention is being brought to light now is because Samsung produced something on a better (smaller and more efficient) process before they could. You know. Because Samsung owns their own foundry... But if Qualcomm fails... Bye bye innovative tech...

EDIT : CORRECTION - My HTC M7 has an "Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600" not an 800

I have an 800 in my HTC M7 and it runs cool, no problems in the couple of years i have had it, though i am not a gamer.

I dont see why phones have to be so powerful, it`s just manufactures trying to out do each other, Better battery life is what 99% of people want more than anything.

Because specs sell. Also higher end SoCs tend to be newer, newer fab = more power efficient for the performance.

I don't feel the Z3V is bad at all. Like I said it can get toasty, but what modern flagship doesn't get a little toasty with prolonged use.

As much as I hate to say it... S6... I hate Samsung with every part of my being but their 14nm quad (because it can only use 4 cores at time)... it doesn't produce anywhere near the heat the 810 or even my own 805 produce... When I put my 805 on the quick charger... I know not to use it until 50%... because the battery hits 115F and the entire phone slows down to the point I might as well go play minesweeper on a 486...

If I didn't need the big screen... I'd totally have an S6... Samsung is a global contender now... and I have to say... From what I hear about the Note 5... I'm probably going to jump ship...

Eh the S6 is pretty bloated, I doubt you would be happy with it. That and with KNOX, it makes flashing a pain for Samsung devices now.

Only if you have a carrier that cares about the KNOX flag. T-Mobile will accept a broken KNOX.

I object on principle though... Because I think I should be free to do what I want with the device I paid for (or will over a payment plan) but I can't deny the Exynos is the supreme mobile processor right now in everything but graphics.... Only reason Qualcomm is ahead there... they bought ATI's Imageon tech back in the Windows Mobile 5 days... and won't license it to anyone... and it happens to scale extremely well (like all ATI old school chips did) and they've been using the exact same tech and just refining it since 2006... I bet you Qualcomm is going to pull an AMD and throw cores... only... it will work because the kernel is based off of Linux which has had SMP since before Intel even thought about a dual core.

Thanks for sharing. I'm using my Z3 for one year and recording my daughter often, no overheat problem to me so far ;)
