I think I read somewhere Android 5 has few memory leaks, could that be a part of the problem?

I thought 5.0.1 with some phones had memory leaks but 5.0.2 should have fixed the issue? And honestly I wouldn't find that a "defect", more like a software issue.

This might be wrong, but did i read that android 5.0 could be run on a phone/tablet with only 512mb of memory, can imagine the memory leak problem on a 512mb device.

Yes, they fixed 1 leak in 5.01, but as far as I know (and I could be wrong since I'm not upgrading to Lolipop any time soon, so I don't pay much attention) there were multiple memory leaks and some still await fix.
Yes John, Android 5 was advertised to work with 512MB only, however I would imagine this would be for 32bit version, I think S6 has 64 bit version, I'm not sure but maybe there could be some differences, since 64 bit is brand new. But the thing is, if you have persistent memory leaks it doesn't matter how much memory you have, it will just take longer, if you have more, to show up.

    Yup.

There was one major leak in 5.0.1, had to do with RAM management directly. 5.0.2 patched that up. But there are several other leaks that are part of the background processes and inactive apps.

5.1 is supposed to fix those leaks.

Yeah I wouldn't hold my breath that Samsung pushes 5.1 fast to the newest phones.

This is why TouchWiz is bad. Case and point.

Plus, why Samsung is messing with Android so deeply escapes me. It can be done so much more simple and still have your signature features. Just look at Sony's Lollipop builds for the Xperia devices. It's quite amazing.

TouchWiz has gotten better (at least it's not as laggy as in 2.3 and early 4.0 ICS builds). My biggest thing is it is a memory HOG. My Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 has 3 GB of RAM and I'm constantly finding my RAM usage doing nothing @ 1.5 GB.

I'm still awaiting 5.0 for my Z3V, it's fast and clean (UI perspective). The actual Rom has alot of Verizon crap on it, but it runs smooth.

I would say it got bad, but wasn't bad to begin with. But then again, I'm a user and your a developer. So you have a better idea of what goes on under the surface. But with 4.4 onwards, Touchwiz has been pretty awful.

That being said, I'm glad I made the switch to my HTC when I did. Sense is really starting to look a lot better so many other android UI options out there.

Google hasn't fixed high RAM usage...

For a stock android phone, that sure is a lot of RAM to use. I can't imagine what LagWiz would use on top of it.

Wow that is pretty crazy, my Galaxy Note 10.1 looks like the 1.4 GB RAM free just cold boot. If I terminate stuff with ATK, I get ~1.6 GB RAM free.

My Z3V has ~1.5 GB used, and 1.2 GB free.

And both are on Kitkat, 4.4.4 for my Z3V and 4.4.2 for my Note tablet.

There's a good chance, Samsung has been doing right to some people. I'm pretty sure 5.1 and eventually 5.2 will be pushed to the S5/S6 and newest devices.

Actually I found TouchWiz used to be WORSE as phones from 3-4 years ago had half if not a quarter of the memory they have now, and TouchWiz was actually worse. I found 2.3 to be pretty bad on my old Blaze 4G.

Yeah its really bad... I don't know if it's just using more because it can or what but I've seen it as low as 300MB which is ridiculous.
