Not sure why you want to buy one; if you use Spybot, Spywareblaster, etc. you would be set. If you want to buy something, get Adaware by Lavasoft.

Nearly all apps like Spyware Doctor can be downloaded as trials. You should try it out for a while and see what you think, IMO, before actually spending your cash for it. There are lots of free programs which might suit you just as well. Check out Calvin's freeware thread.

I'm with gengerald, I think it'll be a waste to spend money on antispyware program, since there's a lot of great free antispyware like Threatfire or SpywareTerminator. But like bmwrob said, go try it for yourself and see if you like it.

And many people would think MS Office is a waste of money since you got OOo. But people still buy it, and it's good to have choice.

Anyway, my buddy bought Spyware Doctor and keeps bragging about it. Guess it didn't get its reviews for nothing.

I didn't like Spyware Doctor when I tried it a few years back. I'm guessing/hoping it has improved since then. When I tried it, it bogged down my system, badly. Everything was slower, from boot-up to general usage. I tossed it after trying it for a week. I also don't know why you want to buy anti-spyware protection. The available free programs provide ample protection. I can't find any reason to justify spending money for anti-spyware.

well if u check out pcmag.com and pcworld.com they spyware doctor 5.5 got the highest reviews. + my friend bought it for his windows XP. shows how well it works and it looks like it doesnt take up much resources. boot time is pretty fast. and the interface looks much better from before a few years back. i wonder how good would it work on vista tho. just asking around if anyone has tried it.

my dad is giving me 50$ for laptop protection. so im pretty happy with avira. looking for antispyware.

Still wouldn't pay money for anti-spyware protection; however, it looks like you have your mind made up.

Spyware Doctor is free with Google Pack, not the trial either. Go search Google Pack. Didn't like it much though.

You can find the 'Google Pack' Spyware Doctor in my sticky/signature.
And a lot of other free AS programs like SAS, A-squared, MBAM... ;)

Spyware doctor is a resource hog when compared to windows defender.

Yeah, but Windows Defender never seems to get decent reviews-It seems like it doesn't find much compared to Spyware Doctor or Webroot Spy Sweeper. :(

As for my own experiences, I used Spy Sweeper for a while. But then it got really buggy and annoying so I ditched it for Spyware Doctor. It's pretty nice and doesn't appear to slow down my laptop very much, if at all. :)
