Combined with safe surfing habits, yes, it is fine for most people. How long have you had just your router and windows firewall?

If you've had this setup for awhile and nothing bad has happened, then IMO, I think you'll be fine with it. Those that disagree would recommend you Comodo firewall.

I used Norton Internet Security so far, but I want to get rid of it. It uses too much paged pool memory and causes trouble with a couple of games (like TF2 and Portal)

My surfing habits are quite safe, but I occasionally use p2p (azureus and emule).

I'm looking for a lightweight security solution like router + windows firewall + avast. I tried Comodo about a year ago, but the frequent pop-ups were too annoying. I want security that stays out of my face (like Norton does)

Apparently, the more you use Comodo, the less pop-ups you get because it'll get used to your system. You just have to make sure you that when you allow or deny something, make sure to check that it remembers what you chose.

Is there any way for viruses to get on my computer when I use a strong firewall like Comodo?

(except the possibility of me being stupid and opening fishy downloads or e-mail attachments)

There's always a chance for viruses to get on your computer no matter which firewall or antivirus you get, even the most expensive. The point of having security software is to reduce that chance as much as possible. Comodo will reduce that chance by a lot though.
