Running Windows Defender for the first time (by accident actually), and during startup it brings up a list of programs that it says have apparently been blocked.

When I look at the list, some of them say "Permitted" and some say "Not Yet Classified". I'm assuming it is allowing those with Permission (so why show them on the list), but has it actually blocked those with "Not Yet Classified"?

Anyway, when I read HELP on how to enable programs, it is confusing to me, because when I highlight the listed program, the buttons for "Enable, Disable, Remove" are not highlighted, so I can't choose them.

Plus, in HELP, it says that if you enable one of the unclassified programs to run from within Defender, you'll still have to enable it each time I start windows. Is that true? I want it to enable it from that point forward, and in fact don't waist time checking the classification of that particular program each time.

But the main issue is Enable, Disable, Remove buttons aren't highlighted so I can't click them.

By the way, I have no idea why Windows Defender just started running. It happened after I had gone in and done some of the most suggested Vista Tweaks to speed up my system and reduce boot time. Mainly what I did there was remove certain programs from the startup list under System Configuration. Why the heck did that start Windows Defender running? But now that it is, I may like it (TBD).

    Here's the steps:
    1. Turn it off.
    2. Disable it.
    3. Get Avast/AVG/Commodo.

By default, Defender is always running in the background. (So you've probably been running it for a while and didn't know it.) Probably some Defender window appeared on your screen because it found something to block.

From the Start menu (or control panel), open the Windows Defender GUI. Under the Tools menu there's an "Allowed Items" section. See if you can do anything with that. I haven't tested it myself, since I don't have anything installed that Defender wants to block.
