    hey.

i have ESET NOD32 smart security and i'm using the firewall. I'm currently a college student and my campus has IPTV. however, my NOD32 firewall is blocking it. Whenever i disable the firewall the IPTV will work though. I looked in the IPTV faq and it said i needed to "allow internet servers" multicast and unicast for it to work.

How do I do this? Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks.

it is in the advanced menu. i believe there is an option to have a basic or advanced window, and in advanced there are settings in the upper right hand corner.

I have basic nod installed now though, so i can't check on that for you. sorry :(

I had the same issue for uPnP. Check the firewall settings and if you need to unblock a program for the rule editor.

You may try asking over at the Wilder's Security forum. It has an Eset forum.

Reinstall ESET, clear all the informations concerning the firewall rules and when you reinstall it, choose Advanced and select "Interactive mode" so it prompt you to Allow or Block an application (just once).

404 Not Found. Please use Imageshack :)

You're on the good track: if its asks you to allow IPTV, this means it detects it and it should work when you allow right?

So when it asks you to allow or deny, just check "Remember action (create rule). You'll have to do this the first time you use an application that connects to the internet. You can also choose "Temporarily remember action..." for applications you want to allow or block this time, but you want to be advise next time it tries to access internet. (Don't forget to click Allow after ;))

i've actually tried doing that and it creates the rule but the program still won't stream the tv.

i also heard that i need to "allow internet servers". How do i do that in the nod32 firewall?

Did you set your local network to be in the "Trusted Network" as most of the services listed under "Allowed Services" (see post 4) are in the Trusted Zone.

Also, enable the log of blocked connection (see post 4 image) under Troubleshooting and check what's happening.

well if u mean if i checked all those boxes in that menu (post 4) then yes i did. i looked at the log of blocked connections and i get a couple (udp and igmp) that says blocked becuase of the rule "block all unknown inbound traffic"

actually forget what i said in the previous post. the log actually is "no usable rule found" and the protocol is IGMP

You can just go ahead and create a rule that allow the IGMP protocol. If you don't know to which app it is related, just that allow the protocol IGMP in both direction, although that's not really safe. Check the log if it specifies a program.

The logic is that if it says that the IGMP protocol is blocked, you shoud check "Allow incoming streams from the Internet via the IGMP protocol" under IDS and advanced options. You could also try to allow Firefox in the rules. In addition, you should try to Allow sharing under Personal firewall > Rules and zones > Trusted zone > Setup button.

Some people says that you should "Try opening UDP port 1234 on your firewall rules."

i've already tried all those things. i still don't understand why its only the nod32 firewall thats blocking it.

I don't understand either. Only solution left I can see is that you turn off the firewall when you use it. If you bought the software, you deserve some support from them :)
