im pretty sure my laptops rife with them

i always thought the only way to help it is to wipe ur harddrive an start again, but there must be free programs that can rid them?

ive tried old favourites spybot and adaware, but no real luck

in particular, chrome keeps saying "page unresponsive", even though the page is fine and the scroll bar on right doesnt work in full screen, but does when its made smaller, also, the top where the tabs appear is appearing transparent, basically somethings wrong!

as well as this, the laptop is defiitely taking a lot longer to process and function than it normally does

its running as if stealth mode's on, but it's definitely not

    anyone recommend any programmes?

    thanks

when i get a bad infection, i do a full system recovery, it`the only way to be sure you get them all, but you will need to backup any files you need first, it only takes a couple of hours to get your notebook back to normal if you stick with it.

I get Kaspersky Internet Security for free from my Bank as i have internet banking, and i have not had any bad infections in many years touch wood, i still run other virus scanners as well but they give me a clean bill of health.

Free programs, iobit malware protector, avast anti virus, malwarebytes, spybot.

You could try Malwarebyte's; I've always had good luck in catching stubborn malware and such with a full scan using that. Though you might just be having ISP problems.

That said, if the infection is truly bad, a clean install would be the easiest way to deal with it. However, you have to be *very careful* with your data afterwards. Do a full scan with AV/malware software on your backups before ever letting it touch your brand-spanking-new OS install. If your backups contain malware, all your effort to clean your system will be in vain.

If you have a file no bigger than 64mb that you think could be infected, you can uploaded it to the Virus Total Website and it will be scanned by 45 antivirus/malware programs

First off if you can take out the HDD and use sata adapter to hook to another working computer that is infection free to scan the HDD to see where the problem is to be sure of the infection doesn't spread. And if there is then you can kill it since it can't run without the HDD being the main boot HDD. That is one way to be sure you can save your data/files if one should have to restore or wipe clean the HDD. But since your just using chrome I would uninstall Chrome and see if that doesn't speed your computer up. It also might be good to give use a screen shot with the desktop and another with chrome browser that will at least tell others what is going on. Also what kinda A/V-Malware detector did you have before using Spybot/adware? If you didn't have anything before that then finding the infection is going to be alot harder then you might want to find it. And taking out the HDD and using sata HDD adapter to hook to working computer with something like MSE all in one program to scan your HDD and see if there is a stealth program hidden in there. Also uninstall any tool bar you have install those are a "RED" flag to getting malware or adware that will bog down your system instead of helping it.

StormJumpers idea is a good one. I know it is possibly a bit late for you now and I am sure you already know it but an ounce of 'prevention' is better than a pound of 'cure'.

Get yourself a reputable anti virus / malware program. If you don't want to pay for it there are many free ones that work just fine. You will save yourself a lot of headaches in the future and if you use your computer to access banking of purchasing on-line you may also save yourself a lot of money.

For complete removal of such bad infection, you need to start from the beginning. Firstly remove recent downloads/junk files/unused software from computer’s memory/Control Panel. Secondly, clean system’s registry/cache with the help of Ccleaner tool. Thirdly, remove temp files. Fourthly, restore your system back to the date when it worked fine. Fifth, use some strong antivirus tools such as Norton 360, Immunet 3.0, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Avast etc to scan your computer completely. Hope this helps.
