ideal antivirus software for the nc-10 (infact any netbook) ?

i ditched mcaffee instantly because -
1) it was only a trial anyway
2) i already had a 3 usage licence for kaspersky internet security

now ive used kaspersky in short bursts and whilst it doesnt appear to slow the system down id be interested in other users thoughts on what is the best (best meaning least resource intensive/smallest footprint) anti virus software for a netbook.

none would be best. but i surf a lot of sites and download a lot of stuff, i think it would be ultimately silly to not have something in place.

doesnt matter if its paid for or free anti virus software. just whatever is the least system killing.

 

Like you said, none. Surfing the net isn't a problem without, downloading can be.

If you do want one: Avira is the free one with higher detection rates than Avast and AVG, and it also has a smaller footprint.

You can install Avira so that it's not constantly running in memory. That way it doesn't affect your system performance at all, and you can scan files when needed.

 

Norton AntiVirus 2009 has the lowest memory footprint on every computer i've tried it on.

Norton seemed to have bucked the trend

Very very light on resources! If I were you i'd try the trial version. NAV2009 has been rebuilt from the ground up.

Lightest AV i've tried on both my desktop and laptop.

 

It's true that NAV2009 is light on resources, but why pay if you can get AV for free.

My pet hate is resource hogging utilities with patronising, restrictive user interfaces, and I use Trend Micro internet security. I have it running on 4 machines. It does take a few seconds to load completely when windows loads, but I don't find it intrusive, thirsty or restrictive after this. I can thoroughly reccomend it.
