    hi

i use avira, malwarebytes and adaware - all free , and defender is left on.
ad aware has a resident prgram that checks processes for suspicious activity.
my only issue with adaware is that it takes a while to load during start up, i think because it is checking loaded processes.
just wanna ask you people for your opinion on adaware free.

    cheers

    MSE include Spyware Protection.
With MSE you will be running lesser processes in the background.

can you disable mse thru taskbar icon or something similar ie. not needing to switch it on/off via msconfig
sometimes i want my av/as off like when im gaming or video editing to make everything run really fast

AV is suppose to run in the background and offer realtime protection.
If a malware stream in it is suppose to isolate it before it can run.
And it takes up less system resource that most other programs so it shouldn't really matter.

yeah i just bit the bullet and installed it.
my system really does boot up faster, and almost everyone in the security forum loves this av/as and it did score very high on av tests.

    thanks

plus you can disable real time protection from its shell if needed.

Ad-aware is quite heavy on resource.. Makes the pc start slower lol.. So i suggest just use avira and malwarebytes only :)

MSE won't slow you down when gaming.
As already noted, it's meant to run in the background like most a/v suites, comes with anti spyware protection, has a high detection rate, is free and very light on system resources.

Disabling it during gaming would gain you nothing in terms of performance, and you stand to lose protection against potential threats.

Used it and zone alarm for years than both started causing problems with my network in newer versions. Now I use Malwarebytes, Avast, and temporarily Norton 90 day free with my new computer.

avira is agreat program which i used before.
but now im just using mse. loads faster and actualy scans faster too. and is actually rated gigher in av comparative's last av/malware test.
the only asw i use it with is malwarebytes for on-demand scanning.
    @deks
although it is light on resources it will still perform scans in the background afaik when gaming. so in the future when i plan to play games that will take my laptop to its utmost limit, i will have to disable it for any speed gain i can get.
right now i dont have that problem...

You can disable the Windows Defender. It's pointless. LOL.
Get MSSE. The best FREE AV(anti-spyware included) currently.
However, it's detection rate is not as high as Avira AP9(but still very high LOL) and have slightly higher resources usage than Avira AP9. Yet, it have lower false positives than Avira AP9. It can detect some Infections that Avira AP9 can't sometime. But, Avira AP9 also can detect some Infections that MSSE can't.

yesh i do like aviras high detection rate. the false positives dont bother me as i like getting a heads up on supicous files rahter than having those same files slip past.
i dont like having two av's though and almost every av forum will say its best to have just one.
so after around 5 years or so, i am switching to another av other than avira.
a lot of users use threatfire too which seems ok but i breaks demontools which i use.

The functions are replicated in other anti-malware software so not useful.

It's a relic, along with Spybot S&D! MBAM and SAS are the way to go nowadays.
