I cleared my download folder not too long ago. But today, I found a file in there that wasn't suppose to be there. Its shady icon was an obvious giveaway. I think it launched a 'run program' window right after I opened g-chrome. I cancelled it of course, and cleared the download folder.

So how did that file get there? I cleared the download folder before. I didn't mess around on the Internet after that, and that file just appeared out of nowhere. I have MSE.

Sounds like you might be infected. Try confirming that MSE is active, then update, then do a full scan. If it doesn't show anything go download a trial version of Norton and run a scan with that.

If you suspect something is wrong, yes. Go to another computer and change all your passwords if you have any suspicion that your accounts are compromised.

threats detected were tracking cookies. one of them was named "doubleclick.net", the file that came out of nowhere.

    not exactly spyware. I'm ok?

btw I used norton quick scan. norton full scan is still running, but I doubt it'll find anything new

I would run my scan(s) in safe mode also. (f8 after post)

Tracking cookies are nothing. Certainly not going to be responsible for what you observed. Do you know that shady file's name? I recently busted Chrome updating Flash without my knowledge and my experience was similar to yours, actually.
