There are several viruses, trojans, malware infections that block access to security software domains to prevent you form obtaining software to remove them.

I ran into one earlier this week that blocked nearly 20 of them ....

I am not saying you are definitely infected--just that it is a possiblity.

Are you able to use IE or firefox normally? Are you getting redirected when you click on a google link for instance?
It might be that malware has changed DNS settings, in that case you should reset your router (usually by sticking a small pin in the back of the router, check your manual) and then enter a unique username and password.
Also download MalwarebytesAntimalware but don't let it automatically install.
Rename the MBAM installer to abc.exe and then install the program.
Do not update it immediately but close the program and go to the folder where MBAM is installed (C:\Program files\MalwarebytesAntimalware), rename MBAM.exe to M.exe and only then try to update it and do a full scan.
You can also use some of the free online virusscanners.
Check my signature for download links.
    Cheers.
