    Hi

My Mom’s has a Acer Aspire 5315-2122 I would like to find a good antivirus suit/software/or total protection suite free or otherwise

I tried to install Norton 360 version 6.0 it came back with system didn’t meet requirements

Here is the specs of the 15 inch Acer laptop

    Aspire 5315-2122

    Intel Celeron 550 2.0GHZ 533MHZ

    1GB DDR2 Ram

    Vista Basic

    I know it’s low-end but it’s my mothers 3 or 4 year old laptop.

^ Choose a free AV like Avast or Avira for highest detection or MSE if you're looking for set-and-forget.
I'd also install Sandboxie/SBIE. It offers to virtualize programs in a sandbox: your mom can then run IE or Firefox (all internet-facing programs) in the sandbox.
Then, even if she comes across malware/FakeAV/etc, she can simply close her sandboxed browser and thus wipe the entire infected sandbox.
After restarting her browser sandboxed, it will be a new clean virtualized IE/FF in a new clean sandbox.
It's an approach that doesn't rely only on detection but isolation of malware from the real OS and real installed programs. SBIE offers a pay once for a life-time license.

If you think Sandboxie isn't a viable option for your mom, then buy her Malwarebytes'Antimalware/MBAM.
One of the best antimalware programs money can buy and it's made to be used besides an AV.
They also offer a pay-once lifetime license

Buying either SBIE or MBAM and combining them with a free AV gives plenty of protection, costs her less than Norton 360 and only once instead of yearly.
Also, best is to have your mom doing work using a user account of course and keep software up-to-date with Secunia PSI.
I'd also remove any vulnerable/leaky programs she doesn't need like f.i. Java; shrinking the 'attack surface' can increase PC security just as much as adding security programs.
And I would spend the saved money on Norton 360 on an extra 1GB ram stick, that will make her Acer much snappier and enjoyable.
    See sig for links, cheers.

In my view, you should try a light and fast antivirus which takes limited hard disk space so that the speed of her PC won’t get affected. I think Immunet Plus will be best option because it requires only 10mb of Hard disk space, if you are aware of any other AV program which take less than 10mb space then go for it.

if u use a genuine windows, just get ms essentials, its free, supported, and easy, your mom wont buzz about the weird corners of the internet anyway (i think /hope? :) )
add on spybot if you like

both are free and should more than suffice
