Apparently Norton lifted their game in their latest release, but I use ZoneAlarm. Does everything and works really well.

I use Eset nod32, which is a package with firewall, antivirus and something else. Works really well and uses minimal system resources when in the background. I usually run a ad-aware (free version) every now and then to pick up spyware and other nasty stuff.

EDIT: aah forgot to say that nod32 is updated everyday or everysecond day with new virus definitions so it i s up-to-date!

Check out AVG for antivirus. It is free and do NOT hog your computer resource as much. And the scan speed can be adjusted as well. AVG is rated fairly high among users.

For spyware, I also use Spyware Doctor and Ad-Aware to scan once in a while but Spyware Doctor (not Ad-Aware) uses too much puter resource for me.

I believe you are talking about ESET Smart Security, which has a firewall, anti-spam, and anti-virus built in?

I use it, and it is one of the best security suites I have every used.

Kaspersky is rated among the best. It's what I use and I haven't had any trouble with it. NOD32 is also among the highest rated, so you may also want to research them.

Check out Bitdefender products, been using their products for many years, very light on resource, and rated one of the top in many reviews. It has anti-spyware together also.

AVG is wonderful for a free solution.

I can definately recommend NOD32, if your looking for a paid one. It scans very fast, doesn't use a whole lot of memory (~23mb), updates are seamless.

I do like the latest version of AVG Free. It's light, fast and quite effective.

In the corporate world, nothing beats McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i for complete and flexible malware protection. You can lock machines down so tight that it's darn near impossible to install malware (or anything else) while the program is enabled.

No unless you are using AVG professional, in my opinion, Free antivirus Software are NOT to be trusted or may not provide sufficient performance. A Payed antivirus software is most likely the best solution.
