Im pretty sure all the major AV/spy are 64bit capable. Most 32bit programs will work fine on vista64

    Currently im using AVG 8

wrong section btw.. mod will move it to security subsection

AVAST will work on vista64 too see here

32-bit software will run on 64-bit no problem; so any antivirus should work on 64-bit OS'.

AVAST and AVG are the two I know of. I personally prefer AVAST and use it sparingly I find it updates there database all the time and its low on resources and offers the scan options I like. AVG is what we use here at work and our owner is a former IBM tech and the only person I know that knows more about this stuff than me so if he chooses AVG he probably has a good reason.

Not always the case, there are many 32 bit programs that will not run correctly in a 64bit environment.

Yes' that,s for XP but still applies to Vista. It creates a 32-bit "sandbox", and will work flawlessly. Drivers are another issue though.

I personally have a handful of things that wont work between the two... Heck even something as mainstream as flashplayer is not in x64.

In 64bit Vista the default browser launcher starts 32bit internet explorer, if you notice it and manually launch the 64bit browser instead and then head to a site with a flash animation you will quickly find that it wont work and when you go to download the plug-in for flash you will see there is not one.... the 32bit flash does not work in the 64bit browser.

I have several games that work in 32bit that wont work in 64bit along with several programs too. So no matter what you quote I have actual personal experience with the matter.

Avira Antivir free is 64-bit capable. This is the best free antivirus program out there in terms of detection rates.
