i know there's a performance impact (albeit a very small) when using truecrypt with full disk encryption; but i just want to ask if anyone did a comparison to see the extent of this impact onto the battery life of a laptop. thanks.

In theory there should be, simply because the computer has to decrypt and encrypt data continously.

I assume TrueCrypt "physically encrypts every file" and not just the "file system".
