    Wow!
This is a most interesting move by AV-Comparatives.
From flat-file scanning to actual real-world "average Joe" simulation testing.
Nice that they've opted for IE7, an older version of Adobe etc, just like the 'average' user has.

Good to see that the 'usual suspects' come out on top again...
    Thanks for posting zfactor :)

Nice to see KIS at the top :)

Now I only hope they fix their system lag issues... as apparently I have run into a MSE bug....
(I'm on a SSD, hence KIS lag is noticeable :()

Nice to see Norton doing well, seeing as its sold as the primary AV software in most of the large pc stores in the UK.

Main issue with Norton was the bloat which I seem to remember hearing they've nixed a lot of this year, so can't be a bad thing :)

Good to know that they've finally taken it on board as an issue and dealt with it.

Back when I worked in IT retail, the reps from Symantec were always coming round asking our opinions etc, and less bloat was always fed back as prefered/necessary improvement and biggest concern with the software, few years to late but sounds like they finally fixed it.

As a query, how intrusive is it, whats the performance hit like? Also what are the effect on boot times, I wasn't as impressed as the reviews of MSE with this and MSE when I tested it for example, so some realworld feedback'd be good. A few of the family machines are due an upgrade/change soon so this sort of info comes in handy!

0 performance hit whatsoever. ram usage is under 12mb idle with chrome running and downloading files. during scan with all options on it sent up to a whole whopping 24mb lol...

0 impact browsing you tube and stuff has no slowdown at all like kaspersky and others do.

WAY WAY less impact then kaspersky and tbh even avira is heavier. as a matter of fact nod32 ess used a lot more ram and showed more real world impact during browsing and downloading etc than nis2010 does which is very impressive.

boot up time was increased for me by maybe 2-3 seconds. thats it. there is a option for early load which loads before windows loads system stuff and that does show a bit more maybe an extra 10 seconds total though nothing much to worry about i leave that off but its up to you. it is nice when working on a infected system this allows norton to remove a lot of stuff it otherwise would have to do in safe mode.

overall fantastic program and this is coming from a long time HUGE norton basher trust me if they turned me its a awesome program im VERY VERY hard to please

Haha sounds like me and I used to have to try and sell the damned thing (or as the managers didnt like 'get Kaspersky instead')

Amazing that Norton's come back. I refused to use it for years after it constantly crashed my system in the early 2000's.

It seems Norton is back in this test :) :) :) . Last month, Norton is down, have everything the weakest. :( :( :(

KIS 2010 still impacts performance? Sad.
Plan for Norton IS if I have golds XD.

Well last I checked it did... they would have to completely revamp it to make it faster as far as I am aware.

Last I checked they also had issues with the ICQ webcam... and log on was slow...

Meh, I've used Kaspersky before, the general performance hit was not huge and the security of it is rock solid, worth the slight trade off.

If it is true that last month Norton was extremely weak but this month it is at the top -- what does that hold for the future of Norton? It has had such a long negative history, particularly around the bloat issue -- who knows if the current "stellar" version is just a blip and Norton will retreat to its usual clumsy self.

Last time, Norton is very heavy resources but the protection it gives is good.
Now, they refined the resources part and make it the as light as possible.
Generally, it's not clumsy but a resources hog last time.

If you check all those AV Comparisons(along last and this year), Norton is quite impressive as Norton hit "1-5th" rank averagely.

Well, I really liked version 7, then 2009 - now 2010 - on a HDD it was a slow startup on Vista, but else OK.

Ever since I moved to a SSD KIS is painful - and I moved to MSE - which now causes a bit of lag due to a flaw that the next release should have a fix for - apparently...

    Also:
KIS 2010 interferes with the Webcam in ICQ - it won't work...

I think I'll leave it until version 2011 to try again... or maybe significant improvements.

That said - I'd still recommend it with slight warnings that it does have a performance impact.

I've personally been using Nod32 for the past 6 years.
Just recently decided to switch to MSE (and haven't regretted it ... but also keep Avira 9 setup on the HDD 'just in case'), because it surpassed Nod in detection rates, is just as light (or lighter) apparently and provides better overall protection.

NIS ... hat's off to them for cleaning up their act, but overall, I'm not going to switch to a paid software again because it's completely unnecessary.

Numerous individuals who know little about computers are actually shocked that there are FREE anti-virus solutions out there that are just as good, and sometimes better than most paid solutions.
Then again, keeping people oblivious to these kinds of things keeps large a/v companies in business.

I still don't trust them , the crap from the pasdt will need a few more years of excellent products for me to even consider them .
That and the fact that in the past 15 years most of the computers I have had to clean had norton or mcaffee running , the product may now be great , but once burned

and the fact norton pushes ask search safe on you and it cannot be removed

nod32 is still a decent program but imo not what it used to be and trust me i was a nod user since almost the day they existed so im not a nod basher here. just to many issues with essv4 that i simply dont have with nis2010
