When Windows Defender Security Center (win10) alerts me to a potential threat and recommends I "remove threat immediately" I have no way to do so as there is no option to "remove" threat. The only option available is "clear history", after I "clear history" it shows "no threat". Is the "clear history" option actually removing these threats or simply clearing the history? Is Windows Defender automatically removing these threats?

In the old Microsoft Security Essentials (win7) I recall it having options to "remove" and "restore" potential threats, there is no such option in Windows Defender so I am left wondering if the potential threats are removed or not. I have seen others ask the very same question in various Windows 10 forums but with no real answers.

I don't have an answer to your question as I'll never use Windows Defender even if you paid me a monthly salary to do so.

You wouldn't use Windows Defender if you valued your computer's performance anyway

Windows defender security center can not be completely disabled without being on a system that allows the user to edit group policy. How would you suggest best way to switch from WIN 10 HOME to PRO or ENTERPRISE .... to be able to use group policy editor.

Any advice or opinion on enabling group policy editor on WIN 10 HOME?

You can disable Windows Defender including the Windows Defender Security Center and it's locked service completely with or without the Group Policy Editor.

Also, right click on the Apps icon in the far left or your bookmarks toolbar and uncheck Show apps shorcut

you have not the need for apps

Its a known bug and there's another bug wherein after restarting Windows Explorer WD is missing. For now, pin MSCui and MSCUiL to start. You can find them in this path C:/ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows Defender/Platform/4.12.17007.18011-0/

I restart windows explorer couple of times when it doesn't respond or work, so WD tray icon disappears and I manually start it by clicking MSCUil You should try RS4, I couldn't disable most stuff but kept only some apps fearing some compat issue. Try it a VM. This should have been RS3.

Never seen this problem. And I have used all the public Beta version of Windows 10 from Redmond HQ. And why should I try RS4 Alpha?

Are you sure? Almost all Win 10 RS2 and above has this bug and they fixed it in RS4 when I told them in their feedback and also asked them to disable Game mode if the PC has good specs, but they removed the toggle button and now by default Game mode is ON w/o user config options. I will never ask them to remove anything!

OK, apparently the issue is not an issue at all. According to the last post in the thread below Windows Defender is quarantining the threat the very moment it's detected (and subsequently deleting it after a specified time frame). That's why we are not seeing an option to "delete" the threat, because it has already been quarantined and/or deleted.
