This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     Windows 7 and Avira removes my icons

    I've installed Avira in Windows 7 on both my E6500 and my Mini 9 and on both machines it removes my Office 2007, Skype, and a few other icons I can't remember off the top of my head. This is from the taskbar and start menu. If I go into properties it doesn't allow me the option to change the icon either. I end up having to add the shortcuts in manually. This is with a couple of builds including 7100 and 7229. Anyone else seen this? Is there something I'm missing?

    Strangely enough I've seen this on Windows 7 RC and Microsoft Security Essentials do the exact same thing. However, after a few hours they all came back to normal and stayed that way. My guess was that after installing Microsoft’s AV software it ran some kind of scan/file inventory check which caused this but, like I said, it didn't last very long.

    Unfortunately mine don't come back. It happened instantly after install, before it had any chance to run a scan. I wish mine was temporary. Anyway, thanks for the reply.
