Umm, if you don't have any viruses, it won't find anything. Do you really want a virus to find?

I mean, do you say a doctor is bad because every time you go take a cancer test it comes back as negative?

AVG is a great and well respected anti-virus, so yes it will find one if you have it. Just be glad that every time you finish a scan, there is nothing found.

If you really wanna test this, go download some harmless trojan from the internet and see if it sees it. There are many websites that can test your AV's capabilities with harmless viruses.

Suprisingly enough avast didn't find it. Even with a thorough scan. Hell even windows defender caught it. Avast let me down big time.

You have to put some trust into AVG just like you trust a doctor. Just cause it's free doesn't mean that it can't find viruses. If you really do need a second opinion you should try an online scanner like Trend Micro HouseCall.

After being a vigilante against viruses and spyware for years, I've got to say that I've never actually got one. I'm pretty confident now-a-days that I could easily surf away with only a firewall.

    User common-sense trumps all viruses.

AVG Antivirus found a virus once for me, when I was watching a live stream. Immediately upon clicking the channel, AVG popped up showing the threat.

AVG Antispyware periodically identifies tracking cookies, usually medium threat...just option to delete upon completion of the scan.

Shouldn't you be thankful you actually don't have a virus? ;)

Anyway, my AVG cleaned up a friend's USB flash drive. All 139 infections

Is AVG better than Avast? Because I use AVG on my older desktop and Avast on my laptop...

AVG found a virus in a file a friend gave me. But he did warn be that the file might be infected - he had found a virus in a copy of the file. I scanned it with ClamWinPortable, a portable virus program, and it didn't detect anything, but AVG did.

If it detects the file then the real-time(or on-demand) protection is OK and you don't have to worry.

Oh yeah, forgot about the ClamWin part. I actually scanned my friend's USB drive using ClamWin, but it was AVG that was detecting [a window that pops out whenever ClamWin goes through an infected file] and healing the files. So basically ClamWin did the scan while AVG did the healing part lol.

I tried scanning the flash drive with AVG [right click then Scan with AVG Free] and it detects the viruses, but there's no option to heal them all. I only got to heal them when it was ClamWin doing the scan. And it was painful. Healing files one at a time as ClamWin was scanning through the flash drive. Really weird.
