My laptop: Sony AR250g Win. XP

Been using MS OneCare but my sub. is up. Also use Spybot and Ad-Aware and CClearner.

Only complaint about OneCare is it's not very interactive, maybe a good thing, No News is good News, but should I be concerned?

I need full protection and this sony seems fast enough to handle a large virus program without effecting the speed/performance.

I don't want a bunch of different software, just one that will keep an eye on everything and keep me protected.

NOD32 would be the best out of your choices and it has the lowest memory footprint.

I started looking at NOD32, been seeing a lot of recommendations from here. Does it cover everything well? I used Norton that came with this when it was new, 30 day trial, and it seems pretty active. Will NOD32 do the same?

AVG free + Spybot "search and destroy" (also free) combo is the best solution out there.
there is no reason to pay for anything

I have Norton Internet Security 2008, and it doesn't have nearly the resource footprint its older siblings have. It's very user friendly and isn't complicated.

I don't see why people bash Norton so much. Out of all the AVs I have tried, Norton has been the best and easiest to work with. Plus my college readily supports almost all Symantec products before anything else.

I download a lot of crap, and so far, Kaspersky has work as the best antivirus. And AVG as the best anti-spyware.
They also use way less resources than Norton.

Norton 2008 is very light on resources from what I have experienced. My processor stays below 10% usage when idling and almost never tops 20% when surfing the web or listening to music.

Right now, as I type this, there are 4 processes running that are tied to Norton in task manager....together they consume ~5 MB of RAM. And yes, I clicked "Show All Processes" and that's what I got.

Doesn't seem to heavy on resources to me.

NOD32 is the best, and if you don't believe me, just check out the last 5 or 6 years' anti-virus tests conducted by an independent company Virus Bulletin. NOD32 has won each and every year. Lowest CPU/memory usage, the best in catcing viruses on-the-fly and the best heuristics. I have had 5 updates of the virus definition only today!

    Check this link.

If I get Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 3-user, $48.00 does it also contain Internet Sec. and Anti Virus?

I'm tossing Notone and Kaspersky around now as to which one.

    I wouldn't say 1000% better...

NIS is a fantastic utility. The new versions are MUCH better then previous versions.

With Norton, I've never had any instance of viruses, malware, spyware or any other malicious things.

Out of those 3? I'd say NOD32, but i also recommend Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-aware 2007, AVG antivirus, Avast antivirus, A-Squared free, and Comodo Firewall Pro. All available off download.com

I bought the Anti-Virus component in its 2007 version, and it was horrific. My Pentium 4 2.66GHz/ 512MB DDR-333 system slowed to a crawl. I had the blaster worm once, and even that didn't cripple my computer. Updates came once every two weeks, but my client would check every hour. This check would "update" my client with a whole lot of nothing while using 100% CPU and start a "quick scan" which would continue to kill my performance. The final straw was when a Norton update identified Half-Life 2 and friends as trojans and deleted the game files.

I got NOD32 and my computer became usable again. Unfortunately, i'll have to look elsewhere when I move to Vista. Symantec bought out Sygate, and discontinued their excellent freeware firewall.

Avg free antivirus + windows defender, Avast + defender, are good free choices. You can also try the AOL free internet security suite. IMAO Norton is the best although it is a resource hogger during start up.

Norton is a virus, OneCare doesn't work on Vista64, and I use NOD32....very nice small footprint program.

I use Norton Internet Security 2008, and I used the NIS 2007 as well.
I think it has more to do with personal preference than anything, since all top antiviruses are very closely matched it features. NIS 2008 is very resource light, as are all the rest such as Kaspersky and nod32, but I like norton's interface and i am used to it so i keep using it.

Out of those three you listed, I will say NOD32 is best for the task it does (antivirus).

However, Kaspersky is a great choice too, and AVG works well and is free.
