Today our IT guy came over and I told him I was having some antivirus problems at least with my parents computer. I tried to install avira free version like I do on all my computers but for some reason it wouldn't update on theirs, so I uninstalled it and installed kaspersky 30 day trial, there computer is fine now.

The problem happened when I uninstalled Norton....after I did this I had a hodgepodge of rogue antispyware and antivirus stuff and a couple of trojans on the computer......I don't no what Norton was doing with these but I guess it didn't like being uninstalled.

Well I cleared that up with Kaspersky and now everything is good. Back to the main story. Well our IT guy friend comes over and gave us a cracked vesion of whatever N32 is antivirus, he said it's the best, I didn't ask him at the time what it exactly was but I probably should of.. well He gave me the setup for it....

when I scan it with Avira I get this:

What is N32? The actual n32 icon says 12.1 MB.

Why is avira saying it's bad? Is it bad? When I click virus information for what avira is saying it is it says no information is available.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well thats what I thought but it doesn't say anything about nod not in the properties or anything....Realize though that this is a cracked version of whatever it is, at least thats what our IT friend said.

Well I don't wanna use it until I figure out if it's nod32 or not......
EDIT: well I just checked the n32.exe with kaspersky and it didn't find anything wrong with it....

Imo, an "IT" guy that provides a user with a cracked version of anything is not to be trusted around the computers.

But, yeah, I'm sure he gave you Nod32.

I just thought of something - did you try googling TR/Dropp.d

well... I get a "drop." which looks like some sort of Trojan.

It may be an infected programme...

Well I mean only avira free version has said it was a trojan. When I scan it with Kaspersky(another computer btw) and super antispyware, they say nothing is wrong with it........

Well I mean he did it more as a friend thing rather than a professional IT guy.....He helps multiple medical practices with computers.....

yea thats what avira says it is a trojan.....but kaspersky says it's fine......

Why in the world would you use cracked security software?
    Don't, simply don't.
There are plenty very free and very decent alternatives.
Unless you get a kick out of pondering whether you've been pwned or not of course.

Also, discussing zoftware as in crackz 'n warez is seriously frowned upon here on NBR. Mods are likely to intervene.

    Well

I decided to try it out......didn't go to well as it wasn't made for 64bit windows 7....so I just system restored to yesterday and reinstalled avira free version....may buy nod 32 or kaspersky in the future but I'm not messing with that crack, I'm taking the exe file off my parents computer also until I understand fully what it is.....kaspersky trial should be fine for a while

    In short,
    Cracks = Dangerous
    FREEWARE AV = Harmless

But if you can find an good and harmless crack, I think I will go for it as long as no-one figured out. LOL.
AV cracks are very hard to find and usually are harmful(virus).
That's why I am sick of AV Cracks already. Use FREEWARE AV FTW!!

I use NOD32, not sure what this is, possibly a cracked version. Just install something else like Security Essentials and clear off the other junk. AVG9 and AVAST! are some other alternatives.

I will never recommended AVG as the AV.
    Try Avira and Avast instead.
