I have a dv1000t HP Pavilion with XP home edition.

I have been trying to download Windows compatibility pak so Office 2003 can read office 2007 documents.

I had no problems download it on my z70va ASUS. It downloaded in just a few minutes.

But on the HP -- the download is taking over an hour.

When this first happened, I though there was some malware on it. I run AVG Internet security all the time. But just to be on the safe side I downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy and checked with that -- nothing (though I did have it delete all my temporary files, Super AntiSPyware, nothing,

Malwarebytes AntiMalware -- it found one registry infection Hijack.start. From what I read elsewhere that's a false positive but I deleted it anyway.

I also installed SP3 on the HP a few days before all this.

I am not sure if that is the problem.

My internet is a high speed DSL and both the HP and the ASUS are on it. SO I don't think that is the explanation.

Does anyone have a clue as to what might be the cause?

Sorry Justitia, I don't have a clue why downloading the compatibility pack would be so slow on your HP box.
I gues it's something like this one?
On that page it's advised to first install all high priority updates before installing the comp. pack but as you've installed SP3 you ought to have all these updates.
And it for sure can't be related to the slow manual download...
Btw, you'll get more response posting this issue in the Windows forum.
    Cheers.
