Every so often, when I start up my laptop, avast would detect a trojan in Wab64.dll.

"Sign of 'Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}' has been found in 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech\Wab64.dll' file." -- it says on the log.

This has happened quite a lot already, and it's usually, if not all the time, when I start my computer. And by "start" I mean boot it up from shut down, NOT from Hibernate/Standby.

Any ideas? Couldn't google anything substantial; only long AV scan logs also indicating they had the virus alert.

    Ehm, what sticky..? :)

You could try AVG free edition and let it heal the file if it also finds a threat.

(solution due to Shaba - http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?p=152905 message of 2008-01-16, 12:19)

    Hi,
Had the same proble. Since any effort to delete -quarrantine file with Avira Antivir was in vain, did this:

Click Start > Run and type in: services.msc
    Click OK
In the Services window find: Network Connection Manager (NetCM)
Select/highlight and right click the entry, and choose: Properties
On the General tab, under Service Status click the Stop button
Beside: Startup Type, in the drop menu, select: Disabled
    Click Apply, then OK

Now, go to Start > Run, and copy/paste the following into the Open box:
    sc delete NetCM
    Click: OK

Redo a scan with i.e. Avira Antivir (which I currently mark as GREAT).

At least double check (actually 30 times) with VirusTotal, there you can upload the file and have it checked with almost all renowned virus scanners.
Then you don't have to install another AV program. Also, contact Avast if it is a false positive.
