Ok last night I was on monoprice.com looking at some HDMI cables and then a message pops up from Mcafee Trojan detected and then another message pops up saying Trojan removed. So I freaked out and started a Mcafee full scan 3 times and a mcafee quick scan 3 times and I did a windows defender full and quick scan and 3 windows defender quick scan's and nothing has come up. I did not go to any websites I have been to before. The Trojan was detected in acer gamezone and in the free trail game Big kahuna reef.exe. I deleted the game form my computer. When I go to Mcafee detection log it says "status" repaired (removed). Is it safe to say that the virus is completely removed? Sorry but i'm really freaking out. Please and thank you!

Probably, but mcafee sucks. Get malwarebytes and do a scan with that. If your clean then you know your good.

Seconded. Also get rid of McAfee, pronto. In the meantime, install a trial of Bitdefender 2009.

I'll third it - McAfee has gone the way of Norton. I suspect they unwittingly hired some Norton moles whose agenda was to secretly turn McAfee into a useless shell of what it used to be so that Norton could compete. McAfee used to be the program of choice. Shareholders suck.

The other program suggestions are pretty good - personally I use Trend Micro and recommend it to my clients as well.

Remember also that Windows Defender is for Malware and not Viruses.

I use Avira Antivir myself and couldn't be happier -- free too! From the sounds of it, looks like the virus was caught and there isn't really anything to worry about, but best run a scan from another antivirus just in case!

There no 100% guarantee that the virus is gone, but I'd say your chances are pretty good if you scanned your computer three times already and nothing has come up. Please bear in mind that McAfee (although you may like it) doesn't have the greatest detection rate, so if you're not on subscription and paying for McAfee, perhaps consider trying out another scanner just for fun.

AVG 8 Free has never done me wrong, and I also use Comodo Firewall Pro and NoScript for Firefox. Nothing gets past that. Just a suggestion.

Malwarebytes is an on demand application that can be used in addition to McAfee. I use them both on the same computer and have had no problems with them conflicting with each other. If you are worried about a trojan use more than one program to scan with as they may find different things. Kaspersky also has an on demand scanner that is free to use as another source.

Norton was crap but they really turned it around on Norton 2009. It installs in under a minute.. takes about 6 megs of memory and the detection rate is very good. It found a few things that my nod32 failed to pick up. I also was very quick to jump all over Norton. They made nothing but crap for years on every product line. But Norton AV and Norton internet security 2009 simply rock. You won't find much negative to read about from reviews and from users.

Personally I think you are good to go. If the Malwarebytes scan came back clean, I'd feel that the problem was resolved. I'm not an expert, so you may want to get another opinion or PM Baserk. He is the member who compiled the best free anti virus/spyware thread that I linked above. He really knows his stuff as do a few other regular posters here.

yep all 4 mcafee full scans came back clean and the malwarebytes trail full scan came back clean. Even though malwarebytes was a trail the scanner is still good right?

Do you mean trial? There is a free version too, that is what I use. The main difference with the paid version is that it provides real time protection while the free version is an on demand scanner. As long as you updated the definitions after you downloaded it, it is good. A great tool to use. It is one of the programs my local computer shop uses to repair customers machines. I am friendly with the owner as he was a customer of mine and I pick his brain every chance I get. LOL.

You need to update the definitions, then do the scan. If you didn't, update it now and re-scan. You want to have the newest definitions.

If it is data base 1801, that is the newest one. I just checked mine to be sure. If that is what you have, you are ok.
