    Hi everyone

Maybe you can help me out or perhaps maybe someone's also seen this before. (Windows Live Messenger = WLM)

I signed into one of my accounts (account A) on WLM today and I received 2 offline messages. Both saying stuff like "lose weight with this and that pill and click on this [www. hourtank .com] website".
So it was obviously a phishing or stuff like that scam.

But what was weird was, it said the offline message came from MY other account (account B).

(Account B) is the one I use normally for WLM and I definitely didn't send that message. But the thing is (Account A) only has one contact and that's myself (Account B).

So I'm not sure what happened but did my (account B) get hacked or something? My email box seems normal but I don't know.
Has anyone heard of this before?

Thank you all in advance for any insight into this strange occurrence.

yep, log on to Windows Live from your browser and change your password:

    http://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=...reply=http://home.live.com/&lc=1033&id=251248

Also, upgrade to the latest version of WLM by going to the site and re downloading and installing it, even if you think you have the latest version based on the way the program looks.- They made an internal code change to prevent stuff like this from happening as often. http://download.live.com/

Yep, lots of people got this virus.

Typically it's a message like this:

OMG, IS THIS YOU: (Link that gives you the same virus if you click)

I doubt you got hacked because if you were, you shouldn't be able to log in to your account B. Don't know what caused the problem though.
Edit: Just read through the entire thread. Seems as it was a virus or something.

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks a lot for all the replies. I've done all the ideas and steps that people have recommended. Reinstalled, changed passwords, virus scan and checked out Trillian, hehe!
Upto now it seems ok, but I don't know for sure.

To add some additional information to what happened.
I received the "2 suspicious offline messages" almost 2 weeks part. One on the 1st and then on the 13th for (Account A). (I don't usually sign-in on Account A)

But I also remember now, on (Account B) on one of the nights I received a "spam message" from a contact that isn't on my list. And on (Account B) my display name and picture resetted itself for some reason. At the time I didn't think much of it but now, has people also heard of this?

I want to ask you guys for some experiences of how you do think I got this "WLM virus", because I want to know what to watch out for in the future.
Normally I: don't click on links from people I don't know, don't open random emails, I didn't answer back to any of these "suspicious offline messages", go on "dodgy websites", and my laptop's up-to-date with all anti-virus software.

Thank you all again for your comments, and thanks in advance for the new ones.

Did you check the email header to see where the email actually came from?

Well it wasn't an email, just one of those WLM offline messages.
But the 2 offline messages sent to my (Account B) were from my (Account A) address. At least that's what the message said.
The single offline message that was sent to my (Account A) though, was from an ([email protected]) email address that I did not know of.
