Any chance you know who the authors are and where that comes from? Also... why Rapishare as a distribution service... ??

To be honest also, from a quick scan of the document, it seems as if it's mainly a collation of otherwise publicly available information. (No idea about it's accuracy -> didn't read it yet, just scanned it visually)

Sorry, I don't know the author(s?) or why it's on rapidshare. Yes, it seems to be publicly available info (though a lot of it) collected into one area.

I did read the whole thing so as a quick overview, it talks about & compares some AV programs, firewalls, browsers, DNS servers, sandboxes, VPNs, encryption methods and email servers. I may be missing a few things but that's the majority of it. Everything it mentions is free and it gives recommendations for most categories.

    Thanks for the quick summary.
I did get the gist of it, I might read it myself - I could put it on my ereader and read it on the train.
-> I just wasn't feeling like it at the time of the download.

A pdf hosted on rapidshare from someone I don't know?

My instincts tell me it's malware.

IIRC, the pdf instruction manual for poison ivy was itself infected with poison ivy.

Yep, I'm just as suspicious about this. There's alot of computer experts that make up this forums, and some of these folks might have malicious intentions. I just hope none of the people who run this site would take part in such a scheme...

Yes, that would be unfortunate for sure.

When I downloaded it, MSE and Malwarebytes said the file was clean.

I made an infected pdf a couple weeks ago that was not detected by any av on vt, and also not by malwarebytes.
