ok, my uncle bought the wrong year of Norton 360. (2007) - if we install it now and get updates, will it give us all the features 2008 has, or should he return it and get 2008?

Return it and use Avast and Comodo.

I want to stick with Norton for sure. Can you just tell me if the updates will give me 2008?

Yea, the updates should get you the newest version of Norton. If not download a trial from their website and you can probably type in your product key to activate it.

This isn't meant as sarcasm, or to give you a hard time, but am curious as to why you'd want to stay with Norton. What is it about the app which attracts you?

Google seems to suggest that the 2007 version of Norton lacks certain features of the 2008 version, but I couldn't find examples of those which 2007 lacks (only looked for a minute or two). Downloading the newer trial version might help you see what's missing.

I think you've been given pretty good advice so far, fwiw, and you might want to reconsider the responses.

As much as I too advocate ditching Norton and using free AV and anti-spyware software, I've heard positive things about NIS 2008. It seems to be a nice improvement over Norton's previous few years of sub-par products.

I also use paid AV, but my preference goes to the ESET Nod32. Perhaps you may try the trial version of NOD32.

With Norton360, I think you'll automatically be updated to the latest. Not like Norton Internet Security Suites, where I think (not sure) you would need to upgrade to get the latest scan engines each year.

Regarding all the comments to "ditch Norton" etc., let me just say that I've recently been converted from someone who loathed Norton, to really liking NIS2008. For me, installing NIS2008 and getting a Logitech Nano wireless mouse are the two best things I've done to this laptop since I got it. My understanding is that N360 and NIS2008 have a lot in common in terms of the basic scan engines etc.. I won't be thrilled about having to pay $50 to renew next year, but at least I got the first year free (after rebates). NIS2008 is not in your face all the time, and in terms of resources, I can't really tell it's running in the background.

NIS is only $39.99/yr now. The scanning engine for all norton home products is the same (atleast for all 2008 products).

Thanks, didn't know that. I install it on three PCs, so really not that bad of a deal I guess. How much is renewal for N360? (I'm being lazy)
