A few month ago, I switched to AVG Internet Security.

Because my HP Pavilion dv1000t laptop started recently to run very slow -- based on research here, I decided to download UniBlue Registry Booster 2. It seemed to help. (Of course it deleted all my cookies including ones I wanted but I wasn't willing to scour the few hundred cookies it found to select out the few I wanted. I just put up with having to sign in on my regular sites again-- like here. )

Though it helped, it did not seem to help enough. In the meantime, I noticed that my AVG software stopped functioning properly. Honestly -- I really don't know if this happened before or after I downloaded and cleaned my registry with UniBlue. The main problem with AVG is that the automatic updater no longer worked and all the scheduled scans were deleted and I could not schedule new ones.

I e-mailed AVG (which has really sucky support in my view) and they merely sent me a canned message to go to a link which allowed me to install AVG, repair it or re-install it. I tried repair and I got an error message about something (I did not understand -- it was partly code) related to the updater.

So I decided to uninstall AVG and reinstall it.

But before I reinstalled it, I had chosen to purchase the entire Uniblue Power Suite: the Booster, the SpeedUpMyPC and the Spy Eraser.

So I am in the process of using everything form UniBlue I can to clean up my computer.
I accidently posted this query in the parent forum and requested a mod to move it here. But as that has not happened yet -- I am cross-posting...

My question is: assuming that re-downloading AVG after an install and clean-up by UniBlue works -- I was planning to just have AVG run at start-up and only run the Uniblue products periodically -- like every couple of weeks or so.

Does anyone have any opinion as to whether I should run any of the UniBlue programs in conjunction with AVG? Or instead of?

    TIA... :)

(I searched for discount coupons on-line and I found them for everything at half price and then I used the 25% off coupon I got from Uniblue for purchasing just the Registry Booster 2. That meant I could get the whole kit & caboodle for about $10 more than just the registry booster alone. With getting both extended download and a back-up CD for everything -- It came to $57.)

I don't really recommend using any registry cleaner or such. And if I have to pick one, I buy Wise Registry Cleaner, I've tried it before and it gives warning to registry which are not safe to delete, pretty safe registry cleaner in my opinion. But you already purchased the entire suite. Some registry cleaners clean "too much", therefore that might be a reason your AVG stopped functioning properly.

Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC, completely useless IMO. You are better off restarting your computer. I've also tried this program based on my friend's recommendation. And removed it after a day.

As for Spy Eraser. This one I've never tried before.

Thanks very much for your comments and advice.

I guess some people like UniBlue and others don't. You are probably already sophisticated enough to do on your own what UniBlue might add. I got RegistryBooster2 on the recommendation of someone else here.

I might try Wise Registry Cleaner to see if it helps better, if they have a trial version. UniBlue makes both a complete and a partial back-up before doing anything -- and you can look at the entire list of what they are going to clean up and why. Everything I saw seemed legitimate but there was stuff I did not know too much about except that they were declared either incomplete or empty (i.e., that the programs they related to were not longer there. All the ones that I recognized (which were most) were certainly the case.)

I realize that it is possible that the registry cleaner cleaned too much and that might have been the cause of the AVG problems. But when I went to the AVG's site last night to re-download Internet Security 8-- they had just put out an update like 2 days earlier to "correct known problems." IS * was just released 3 months ago and I have had a number of (minor) technical problems. So that is just as likely the cause.

I have to say, though, I thought the registry cleaner definitely sped up things -- not a lot but a noticeable improvement. The SpeedUpMyPC made a big difference as it cleaned out all kinds of temp files I don't know how to do. (I used to rely on IE but IE no longer wipes out off-line temp files along with temp internet files.) It was the Spy Eraser that made the big change. A lot of it was getting rid of cookies.

I can't believe that within 1/2 an hour another 50 cookies or so were dumped back on.

I was mostly wondering if anyone saw a problem keeping AVG running and the UniBlue running at the same time. At the moment I just plan to use UniBlue every 3 weeks or so to sort of clean up stuff.

    Hi Justitia,

As I don't use both programs myself, I can only think of a possible conflict between the real-time protection of AVG Internet Security and the real-time protection of UniBlue SpyEraser.
I'd only use AVG's real-time protection and use SpyEraser for the occassional once-a-week on-demand scan.
Usually it's not recommended to have dual anti-spyware real-time protection so ask both companies whether they know of any possible conflicts, to make sure you can use both programs at the same time.
    Cheers.

I bought Registry Booster and SpeedUpMyPC from Uni-Blue.

I didn't find that either made much, if any, performance improvement. They did, however, delete all my browsing history, cookies, etc. (had to look up all my auto-login passwords again, etc.)

When I requested the refund that UniBlue offers, they did not come through. They would not reply to any further e-mails about it either. It cost me $60 for nothing. I've removed both programs from my system.

    Thanks for nothing, UniBlue.

    Let the buyer beware.

I have been having a lot of problems with my laptop lately because the shutdowns were just incredibly slow. Anyways, it turned out it was just Comodos Defense + making the shutdowns really slow but thats beside the point.

After many reinstalls of windows, and the painful waits while its updating I decided I was going to buy a backup program, ended up buying Norton 12 from a friend who upgraded and since, I have made a backup of my computer from a freshly installed and updated clean vista.
I installed all my favourite little programs, like firefox, ccleaner, etc.
    made another backup.

Again I was going off the point, but my point is that from those backups I can have a clean registry and computer so if I get attacked by a virus or by some software going ape I can just restore without too much problem or time.

I would suggest making backups instead of using too many registry and computer cleaners because there isnt a real replacement.

just my 2 or 3 cents
