    The one sure-fire way to get rid of a virus, Is to do a reformat folowed by a clean install.. I hope you know how to do that, If not there are other options such as certain online virus checkers, or downloading and using a free one, AVG comes to mind.

    Have you restarted the computer?

    I had USB ports "dieing" on me when I disconnect my USB Hub... don't ask why. A restart fixes the problem.

    If that is the case, you surely have some anytivirussoftware on your computer, or not?

    restart did not help.. n yeah..have awast running over there.. only f*#k up was that it was not updating itself for some @#$$%% reasons.. updated right then..but it wouldnt help.didnt catch any virus sorta thing. n for some wise reason we thought of uninstalling-reinstalling usb drivers..thought this would do,cause they seemed to be DEAD, not reading anything..didnt help :)

    any idea how to get them back to working..

    If you have resolved the malware infection, try checking the following;
    Click on Start/Vista orb-> Run-> type "regedit"-> check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR.
    The value for Start Dword should be 3; enabled. 4 means disabled.
    That way you can at least solve the issue of using USB-sticks.
    Have you tried rebooting after disconnecting the keyboard and mouse and then re-inserting those?

    if you insert an windows installation CD and you can move though the steps, then it must be your current installation that cause trouble.
