Yup, we use Prey and recommend it to our clients. Works well in the tests we've done, though we've stopped short of letting someone actually steal our machines.

We put it on desktops too, not just laptops, just in case.

Lookout offers a similar feature for Android phones (along with some other security features), though it looks like Prey is offering Android support too. iOS has "Find by iPad" and "Find My iPhone" which also work great.

Bottom line -- these things are so easy to use and, for the most part, free, it's a no brainer.

Prey is a good one but it takes much space. You may also try Notebak Anti-Theft, as it is also good one.

same here + 1 for prey.
great bit of software but even if you use the pro version its only good for opportunist thieves as they will most probably keep and use the lappy.
if its a pro thief that knows what they are doing the first thing they do is remove the hard drive and thats your laptop gone and never to be seen again.
good idea is to have it loaded on a msata drive if you have one as this is separate from your main hard drive and not really noticeable inside unless you know what you are looking for.
