Got Sony SZ6../X with Vista Business, before that i had MacBook, and was not worried about security, viruses.

I've got a lot of questions, but for now it is important to buy and install an antivirus, what one would you advise?

In my shortlist are included: Kaspersky Antivirus 7.0, NOD 32, and Norton Internet Security. Norton is preinstalled on my VAIO as a trial version.

The main requirement is that i want security programm, which would Not slow down Vista.

My personal preference is NOD32, but Kaspersky is also good. IĀ’d stay away from Norton for performance reasons (based on my past experience). Check www.av-comparatives.org for comprehensive comparisons of the most popular Virus guards. NOD32 and Kaspersky are the top 2. As for NOD32, version 2.7 was perhaps the fastest scanning engine around at the time (I think mostly due to the fact that its largely written in assembly code*). but unfortunately version 3 is not as fast as 2.7, but still good enough.

excuse that i made separate thread, cos i didn't notice that there is a special division for security questions.

PhoenixFx, thanks for your answer. i suppose to buy Kaspersky, cos i see that it has more adorned interface.

I have heard that to fully uninstall Norton Internet Security i need to download some programmm is it right? if so, could someone give me a link.

don't mind me crazy but i'm very concerned about security issues. so, i got:
avast, windows defender and brandmauer(i dunno how it is named in english, it is the first in list of security in control panel). also now googled for spyware blaster, will see what is it.

    1) I have disabled VRDB in Avast, is it right?

    2) Maybe some other security programs would you suggest...

    Baserk, thanks for detailed answer.

So, i coped with AV's. As for firewall there is Comodo. now it's time for other security part. the last one:
    i've downloaded SpywareBlaster, Superantispyware, ThreatFire.
    Which one is better?

    what is it?
2)I have installed ThreatFire but i have problem with it - ThreatFire closes some applications like mobility center and other windows application, how to fix this?
