    hi, i am looking for good, possibly free, software compatible with windows vista for securing my files, folders and passwords.

    please suggest

    Maybe...i don't know...what i want is something that makes my files and folders inaccessible to all but me...in fact no one but me should even know of their existence...and once i close the explorer window they should become invisible/inaccessible again even to me until i enter the key or whatever.

    You probably want something like TrueCrypt then. You can tell it to hide an encrypted volume.
