    Hi folks,

I hope I can get one of you AV experts here respond on my delimma ...

I ran a small file thru the following 3 online Single File AV Scanners ... got these suggestion from Baserk Free AV List ...

    1- VirusTotal
    2- Metascan-Online
    3- Jottie

and online scanners #1 & #2 gave it a "Clean" bill of health ... BUT, Jottie #3 the "ClamAV" AntiVirus Scanner says it has
    " 2013-01-12 PUA.Win32.Packer.WwpackV"

    Now I am confused ...

    - ClamAV in VirusTotal with the same date of signature says this File is Clean.

    - ClamWin in Metascan with the same date of signature Also says this File is Clean.

Q1: How can this be ... same Antivirus Scanner with the same Definition date on different sites return different response?

Q2: Which one am I to Believe? Is Jottie Correct?

From my readings PUA is a Super Nasty and UnCleanable Virus/Trojan ... so!

Any Help would greatly be appreciated ...

    Thanks in Advnace?

    G! :)

All of those websites aren't very reputable. I'd recommend installing one of the better free AV products like Microsoft Security Essentials, Antivir or AVG.

First off, no AV expert would ever recommend utilizing multiple software solutions for protection because of the overlapping scans and edits they all conduct on your machine. I would recommend removing all the current AV programs you have loaded through the complete method, which is utilizing the provided Remove tools. If you need to download the remove tools individually, most should be able to be found here: Security Software Uninstallers | Malware Help. Org

Regarding protection, free is not always best because the product is still free, meaning the level of support and virus definition update is not bound by a purchase-contract. PCMag recently released their list of top anti-virus softwares, which I would recommend taking a gander at. The link to the article is here: AntiVirus Free Trial - Free Malware Scan | Webroot

For quick removal, try downloading the Webroot trial. I say this because it will do a complete scan and allow you to receive full tech support right away, even before the program is paid for. It should be able to detect and fix that virus, if it is a virus, and give you peace of mind. A link to the trial: http://www.webroot.com/En_US/consumer-trials.html
    Best of luck!

I'm going to try eset for the heck of it.

@ OP: Definitely try something more reputable like Avast! + Malwarebytes or MSE + Malwarebytes.

Perhaps the Clam-AV version at Jottie uses a different (older) heuristic engine.
G, I wouldn't worry if only Clam-AV flags it as potential malware. As member Abidderman already pointed out, it's only a warning about a potential unwanted application because it uses a packer that's used by numerous legit programs besides malware.
Also, you never know what kind of heuristic settings the different AV's use, so there can always be a difference between their results.
I assume you already have an AV installed and you use the online scanners as a second-opinion?
Just stick to one, that's really more than enough ;)

Mmm, no. Those sites actually are reputable and within their limitations (using only command line scanner version of AV's), they offer practical info.
For the large majority they are no substitute for an AV of course but the OP never hinted that he doesn't have a resident scanner installed.

    Hi folks,

Really appreciate all of you folks help and advice and So Fast ... folks at NBR are the best.

Hi Baserk ... bailing me out again ...Thanks mate! :)

As Baserk mentioned ... my laptop, runs on Vista Home Prem., X64 and I use the following as my set-up and that is A Huge Thanks to Baserk and this Site ...

Avira as AV + Comodo as Firewall + SpywareBlaster + WinPatrol as my resident defense. I use MBAM and SAS for On-Demand scans ... usually weekly.

I use VirusTotal often for Single File Scans when in doubt. I sometimes follow-up with MetaScan if I am looking for 2nd opinion, also when I have a Larger size file ... and sometime with Jotti ... to Only Scan Freebie Software and Programs I come across which I want to use or play around ...

But you folks & Baserk have put my mind to rest ... so I will go ahead with the Game file.

Thanks again for all of you folks Help & Advice!

    G! :)

Each and every antivirus does not function in the same way. Motive of these tools are to remove virus from your system and the process can differ from each other. So don’t worry if Norton gives some virus report and kaspersky or Immunet Plus does not match with it. Well you get virus removed from every authenticated online or offline antivirus installation.

You need to download these antiviruses from their official webpage not from the one which does not look authenticated. It might happen that you may end up downloading virus while installing antivirus tool from such site. Be alert while online download and choose official webpage.
