I have been using free Anti Spyware programs since I can remember (Ad Aware and Spybot) and I think that they have done an ok job protecting my PC. I have seen a slew of reviews come out recently that mention the decline in the effectiveness of these products in blocking and removing malware. I have noticed that a couple of titles have been gaining a lot of good mentions (PC Tools Spyware Doctor is the one I have seen do the best). Has anyone got any good recommendation on a good Spyware blocker/remover? I think I am ready to buy one and am wondering which one to get.

I recommend Spyware Doctor. It's worked pretty well for me and, like you said, has gotten consistently good reviews.

Google offers it free as part of the Google pack (you don't have to install everything, only the programs you want/need) The only thing different between Spyware Doctor Starter Edition and the full version is that the Starter Edition only has a few of the real-time protection features of the full version.

    More Info: pack.google.com

EDIT: @ Thomas-LMAO at myself, that's what I get for responding to posts from the "latest laptop discussion" list-they don't show which part of the forum it's in! :)

    Hi.

I use superantispyware if i think i have a problem, It even cleans on a re-boot to get active files, that are not accessible when your system is running.

    Regards

    John.

SUPERantispyware, A-Squared and Malwarebytes'Antimalware, all very good free on-demand scanners.
For active protection; ThreatFire, a behavioural blocker.
Check my signature link for downloads.
    Cheers.
