Ok, just ran into a problem:

Somehow I managed to get some sort of spyware on my computer. I currently have two separate scanning programs Spyware Terminator and Spyware Doctor. Spyware Doctor told me it was some type of "trojan" that flashes on your desktop with a system alert and tricks you into downloading other software however, spyware doctor only scans and doesnt remove items. The spyware terminator picked up the leftover pieces of the trojan but cannot remove them although it has removed items in the past. I realize that this is a free program but is there anything I can do Before having to spend money on something?

Go to www.trendmicro.com and use their HouseCall free system scan. It will show you what your computer is infected with. If you could get a screen shot of the page where it displays your infection, it would be easier to know what kind of virus you have and how to delete it.

Try Spyware Doctor from google pack. It lets you remove the spyware instead of just scanning.

You can always try, Spybot, Ad-aware, SuperAntispyware, or just plan ol' system restore the thing.

I Ran the Trend Micro HouseCall and I think it managed to get rid of/isolate all malware but this:

    TROJ_SPYWAD.BT

It says the threat is very low but I think this is what's causing the popup on my desktop that claims my system is infected. (If I click it it directs my to a downloadable "spyware scanner", obviously more malware.)

Usually TrendMicro gets rid of all trojans, malware, and viruses. This one is a smart one. Could you boot up MSCONFIG? Run the scan again and find out where the TROJ_SPYWAD.BT is at and you could boot your system in safe mood and check it out.

When you boot in safe mode, double click on My Computer.
    - Tool
    - Folder Options
    - View
    - Go down and select Show Hidden Files
Also, uncheck Hide Extensions for Known Types & Hide Protected Operation System Files

    Then look for it.
