When i go on google and type in something, many times it would show pictures of a product and have the word sponsored with a ? First off, how do i get rid of this? I use chrome. Also i recently had clicked on a link that i did not know was sponsored. So did that cause this?
Do most of you guys not allow sponsored ads? Because doesn't that mean it goes to third party sites etc? Example on amazon and ebay, apparently it says if you click on those links, its a 3rd party and amazon say they are not responsible etc

You can opt out of personalized ads in your Ads Settings. Your opt outs will apply across both Google ads services (ex: Search ads) and the 2+ million websites and apps that partner with Google.

I do that, and more - locking down every site I use via their site preferences, but I also run several blockers inside of Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, etc:
Chrome Extensions, some also available in Firefox and Opera - alternatives exist just google for them.
Privacy Badger

ScriptSafe
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...df?utm_source=chrome-app-launcher-info-dialog
uBlock Origin

uBlock Origin Extra

Video Adblocker for Youtube Extension

Enable FB Ad blocking by toggle in that one too
Each of them have a bit of a learning curve, I'd start with the Privacy Badger + Video Adblocker, then add the uBlock Origin extensions and select all of the Lists configurable - about 241k hosts for cause and 171k cosmetic, then add ScriptSafe - it's like NoScript on Firefox, it takes tuning - enabling - each site you visit, but becomes 2nd nature, sometimes you need to open up a little in Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin, and ScriptSafe to get all the site features, or disable them for the site which I don't recommend getting in the habit of.
Anyway, it's a morass of things to defend against out there... and don't forget about blocking Miner's, each of those tools that have lists update have added many to block, but I went out and found other lists and added them to the ScriptSafe user customizable blacklist - about 12k
Have fun!
PS: I've settled on those after many years of trial and error, but there are other tools old and new to check out, so please do so and let us know if you find anything better or anything that covers some cracks not covered with the above extensions. WebMail Adblocker is an example, I run it on Firefox because I've run it forever, but I don't load it in Chrome because gmail ad's are blocked by the above extensions, but it might cover things I haven't noticed, so it's worth adding and configuring to see if it does anything more than the others. I've selected uBlock Origin over AdBlock Plus which I used for many years, and ScriptSafe over NoScript, and disabled various Miner blockers in favor of just loading their blocking lists and others lists into ScriptSafe (you could add them to uBlock Origin instead, but SS seems more efficient...Last edited: Mar 20, 2018 -
