My uni offers an "Internet Tools CD" which offers Sophos Anti-Virus to all students for University use. Just wondering if anyone has ever used Sophos and if it's comparable to other anti-virus software out there. Frys has Kaspersky free after MIR so I was thinking about that too.

I also had to install it for uni, at least to connect to the Internet. I'm undecided as to whether it was better or worse than McAfee, which my computer came with.

alkaeda, uninstall it and see if your computer still works on the university network. Mine did, even after I completely re-installed the OS. At least here, you only "had" to have it for the initial registration.

My university offers it for free as well. It was alright back in the day but nowadays its rate of detection & definition of viruses is lagging even compared to free alternatives such as Avast & AVG. [I emailed the av-comparatives and they told me this]
