I just started college amd I have not been on my computer for 2 days. I just now learned about this virus. So I have a few questions. Could I have been infected with the virus even though my computer has not been turned on for 2 days ? Should I even turn on my computer? I have Mcaffe. I just don't know if I should turn on my computer and update Mcaffe and windows. Please forgive me if I'm a little slow on the info lol.

It does not matters, you could have been infected before. Just dont panic and update your windows and antivirus software.

Always make sure you have a backup of your ikmportant files, virus or not hardware can always fail.

To answer the first question, if you keep your Vista Updates current, then you should already have the update installed that deals with it. If not, you should download and install it ASAP.

All of the major A/V software companies know about it, so if your Virus definitions are up to date you shouldn't have a problem. If you need the update, it's at this link: Security Update for Windows Vista (KB958644)

The update # is the same across all Windows platforms.

In retrospect: nah...do nothing. April Fools was yesterday.

Just make sure you have all Windows Updates installed and Mcafee is 100% up to date.

    You should be fine.

Unless you are just acting dumn :D :D :p

    Cheers

...if you 'can' update Windows and you 'can' update Mcafee, then that should answer all your questions.

That's why my post seem sorta short, first clue was that he never mentioned conficker by name, so he probably at that point didn't realize all the other threads with the name of that 'virus'. OP just didn't realize or wasn't fully informed, not that anyone helped out. Key here is that the worm would prevent update from working and not allow access to certain websites. This thread is more of a misunderstanding.

Simple way to see if you have Conficker (or possibly other malware): Conficker Eye Chart. More likely than not, you don't have it.
