I have windows Vista, and windows defender is built-in in the OS
I use NOD32 anti-virus 3.0, it has anti-virus and anti-spyware real time protection in it.
So, is it save for me to turn windows defender off ?

I personally don't use Windows Defender. Frankly I think its spyware detection is crap, and it takes up background memory.

Yes, especially because you have NOD32.

You can go one step further than mentioned in the above article.

-Click Start and type in "services" and open it up.
    -scroll down to "Windows Defender"
-double click on it and under startup type select "Disable"
    -click ok

Oh I thought maybe it did. I had ZoneAlarm and it turned Windows firewall off for me. Or maybe Windows firewall turned off automatically. Hmmm, don't remember now...

Ok Thanks guys, I was about to ask the same question, since the search function didn't produce the concrete answers I needed. I've just installed Comodo firewall pro and turned off my window firewall. Hope I did good. lol

Comodo rocks but it keeps prompting me for program access. :(
