Whenever a new version of SuperAnitSpyware comes out and the little box pops up in the lower right corner of the screen on startup, I am always blocked from clicking on the download button because "this must be done from an account with admin privileges"... What gives? This happened on Vista 64 and is doing the same thing on Windows 7 64, even though I only have one account on my laptop and it does have admin privileges... This option worked for me on XP though, and it is much simpler than having to go though the process of uninstalling the old version and installing the new one

Its possibly because when you install its "Run as Administrator" and when you update this doesn't happen and its running as a regular user programme.

Can't you download the file, then try to install/update from that?

Yea, I can go to the site and download it, but it has to go through the process of unistalling the entire program and then installing the new version...

If I right-click on the program in the start menu, select Run as Administrator, and then check for updates, when I click on the update button I get an error (see SAS3)... When I close the program like that error asks me to, I once again get the error in SAS2, so it is like a never ending loop of crazyness

When I update SAS I also have to run it as an admin, and by doing so after runin SAS not as an admin I get no problems and it updates fine.

People forget that because of UAC, process by default aren't granted admin privileges unless explicitly granted.

On XP, processes were given admin privileges implicitly.

That explains the update process asking for admin privileges even though you are running an admin account. You have to explicitly give it admin rights.
