I currently own a copy of Rising Antivirus, and it works pretty well. But the problem is, it's outdated version is not compatible with Vista. It works fine on Windows XP, and I'm able to update it to the latest version with no problems at all. But when I tried to install it on my mum's laptop (Home Basic), it said it wasn't compatible, and I wasn't surpised, since my copy was from 2006.

Now anyway, I just got a laptop, and I've decided that I'm already familiar with the UI and it works like a charm, so why change? I've checked the Rising Antivirus website, and the latest 2008 version is Vista-compatible. But the problem lies in the fact that I won't have the 2008 version straight away, as I'll still need to install the 2006 version (which is not compatble with Vista) before I can update it to 2008. And frankly, I'm not able to update the program, since it won't run (as previously tried on my mum's Vista laptop).

So, what's a good solution? I still have my serial key and everything. Will I be able to download the 2008 version from their website and use the serial key that came with my 2006 version? Or is there anyway to bypass the incompatibility issue?

most av's now come w/ a 3 home license deal- check and see if your av has such a purchase option- if so, ago ahead and purchase it now and install the 2008 version on both pc's-- if it doesn't, check out bitdefender, kaspersky and nod32 for such a deal- they are 3 of the top rated. IMO, you need to get the latest version of the av.......

No no, I've got a purchased copy of the 2006 version on disk like 2 years ago, but it doesn't run on Vista. While the latest 2008 version does. And the good thing about it is all I have to do it update my antivirus and it'll become 2008, with no extra costs. But the problem is I'll still have to install the old version in order to update, in which is doesn't work. So I was wondering if downloading the latest version and using my old serial for 2006 would work.

As far as I can see on the Rising AV website, they offer 1&2 year licenses.
Did you recently renew your subscription in order to get virus signature updates?
I don't think you can ever find a way to install the non-vista 2006 version on a Vista machine so I think it's useless to find a way to bypass the incompatiblity issue.
Why don't you just email their support staff and ask them about your issue?
    Cheers.
