My sister is having a problem with her laptop. its hp dv5t.
here's the deal- my brother was on the internet ..and a popup showed up..he ended up pressing download on the popup- he has no idea what it was.
after he did that her computer started acting funny. her screen would show up and now its flickers on and off every minute ..give or take

fyi- it was fine before this..and the heating has been fine on it as well.
it was working perfectly until my brother accidently downloaded whatever it was he clicked on.

so she called and i told her that she possibly has a virus. She has AVGfree..my brother ran the scan on it and it showed nothing...but i toldher that there is stil a possiblity of a virus.

so im checkin with some of you who know more about this area...
    thanks!

Yes, it's very likely the pc is still infected if you have problems still. Try using Avira AV, it detects better than AVG and is also free. Additionally, you'd maybe like to DL superantispyware to help.

use trinity rescue kit cd along with an updated virus definition files, try trendmicro's housecall, if possible refind what your brother downloaded and upload it to a multi virus scanning site like jotti or virustotal to find the virus and then find ways to remove it, if all else fails, backup her data and reformat.
possibly isnt a virus, maybe an updated driver incompatiblity. or if there are "free spyware removal" programs on her pc, they may be causing programs in order to get you to buy the program in order to fix it (not moral but these days technically legal)

... One question: what browser is she using? Firefox+Adblockplus+Noscript usually stops this kind things... Try installing avast and schedule a boot time scan, some of those can't be be removed unless windows isn't fully loaded.

Its best you do a formatted install to completely get rid of it. Your system looks quite compromised.

Next time use firefox, Spybot S&D and a good anti virus like AVIRA or AVG.

she doesn't know much about computer though...and she never asked me about downloading good antivirus or anything...so when my brother downloaded whatever it was she didn't have any antivirus on there...i told her that was stooopid! LOL

but yea i told her that i would prolly have to reformat after looking at your posts and doing more research on them...

    AKAJohnDoe--LOL

another thing though- she never made any recovery disks..i don't know if the computer came with them..she bought it at best buy. so if i were to make her the recovery disks- she doesn't know how..would the trojans end up being on them or not?
