I have read all the threads reccomending diffrent firewalls, anti-spywares etc but whats the differance? Also, do you need one of all? If so, what is the perfect set up of antivirus programs? Which one would you choose?
Thanks!

If you're willing to listen I can tell you what I think would be the best set up. I would use Avast for antivirus, because it packs the most features for free while still having good virus detection rate. For a firewall I would use Comodo since it is free without ads like Zone Alarm and is proven to block more ports. For antispyware you can just enable Windows Defender. Those three would be what I call a perfect setup for on demand protection.

Personally, I think any combination of reputable firewall/AV/Antispyware apps will suffice unless you're totally wreckless in your surfing habits. IMHO, though, you should use at least two different antispyware programs because none that I'm aware of is capable of catching every possible bit of nastiness which may infect your system.

my ideal package: ZA pro + NAV + Ad-ware Pro + Spyware Blaster

I think my combination of AVG free + Windows Defender + Windows firewall is more than enough adequate security for my laptop.

It depends on your situation. AV and Anti-Spyware utilities are a must have for any system. If you find yourself getting a lot of spyware then you should invest in a paid version that runs in the background, same goes for an anti-virus. If your computer is hooked up to the internet directly then you should invest in a good firewall, either it be free or otherwise.
It depends on the person and their needs. Scan your computer for awhile and try out free trial versions of paid software and see if you need them. -
I got fore a more powerful, yet system resource light setup than the others.
Comodo pro, threatfire, Spybot search&destroy, Antivir -
I don't think there's a prefect set-up, but this is what I use:
Online Armor (I have XP Pro)
Ad-aware 2007
Avira AntiVir (primary scanner, active protection off)
A squared free
Avast (secondary scanner, active protection on)
CCleaner (this is a stretch, but I think it's important all the same)
Spybot
Spyware Blaster
Winpatrol
Final Count:
1 Firewall
2 Anti Virus
3 Anti spyware/malware
2 Preventative programs
I also use Winaso and jkdefrag. I have tuneXP, but only used it for an initial tune-up and haven't touched it since. Just in case you think all this takes up an insane amount of resources, it doesn't. Only 34 processes running at start-up and negligible CPU and RAM usage. Overkill, definitely, but I kind of like this stuff for some reason.
After using these programs I'd rank the anti-virus programs I've used as:
Scanning: Avira > Avast/AVG
Active Protection: Avast/AVG > Avira
Spyware:
A Squared > Ad aware 2007 >> Spybot
Firewall
Online Armor > Comodo > Kero (also known as sunbelt) > Zone alarm -
Nope. Came up with it myself. I knew that avira's active protection wasn't as robust as avast's so I used avast's active protection.
-
I just use Avast(Anti Virus) and Spybot's Tea Timer(to prevent reg changes without my permission).
-
I just let comodo firewall protect me from anything i don't want.
Perfect Set-Up?
